I hear you on the benefits; that was another huge selling point for this move.
It's funny, one of the many things I'm looking forward to in this new job is being around adults and dressing up for work!

I feel the white is fresh; I am usually a black wearer (as you can I'm sure relate to, being a musician) so it just FEELS good. So thanks for that. :)

Congrats on the new job! As a music teacher with two 12-year olds, I get the evenings and weekends thing. I teach part time, and the bulk of that is at a small college during the day. No benefits though, which is killing us.

Separates are definitely the most versatile way to slowly build an office wardrobe, and white looks especially fresh and pretty!

Yeah. I'm trying not to spend any money and just use a gift card I have and make things work. That's why these are "Trying to Hard". ;P
The white skirt (skort; terrible word) is nice for a nice but casual look.
Bought it; gonna play around with it.
Thanks for all the replies!!

For me it would be too short for work, same reason as others already stated - would likely not pass the "sit" test. And to pass that test, I find a lot of times it's not even the length that is the issue, it's the cut of the skirt, and also the material. Because I am apple shaped with flat rear, a skirt like this may appear to be fine when I sit (not exposing too much thigh) but it'll hike up too far in the rear (the belly throws it off in the back), and it feels gross sitting in public spaces! Mind you, I also no longer wear shorts except for gear...

When I think about the handful of work dresses I own that hit above the knee, they are all styles that surrender the waist, or are fluid materials/fits, like an A-line shape. These pass the sit test.

When I wear such a dress for work, I pair with dark tights to cover the exposed skin, and I'd be sure to wear a high neckline as well.

I am okay with exposing some skin at work -- I do look far better in a V neck rather than a crew neckline --- but for me it's about balance. If I'm exposing bare leg, then I cover up the top (with higher neckline or a scarf). If my legs are fully covered, then I feel more okay with a V-neck.

Though I gotta say that wearing midi & maxi lengths this summer is making me feel that my knee-length dresses are too short!

For me, it would be too short. It would be just fine as a "standing up," skirt but my experience with straight and pencil skirts is that they ride up WAY too far for my taste when i sit down...especially when I cross my legs, which by habit, I do. The skirt pulls up and exposes a lot of my bottom thigh, no matter hard I tug and smooth.

Vicky, it IS very fortunate. I'm transitioning out of full time music teaching and into office admin work. Teaching hours do NOT work with two small boys at home! I just happened to ask her to keep her eye out for any admin jobs that she may hear of and voila. Amazing how things work.

Your skirt looks good standing up.

Me, I'd do my sit test: I sit down, drop a pencil by my feet, lean over to pick it up and glance at my crotch. If I see panties--too short for me Because at some point each day, I'll be sitting and someone will be able to see me from the front! If your legs are under a desk, maybe not an issue.

With a blazer and jewels, that will add the polish, and how fortunate to have your friend as office manager.

I suppose it would depend on your work? I don't think I'd wear it to work, but I'm ultra-conservative on the colleagues scale :p

I don't think it's too short, but the vibe is pretty casual. Are you asking about the whole look, or just the skirt length? What's the fabrication of the skirt?
