Additional: I also used to like RW&Co a lot. But their quality has been terrible lately, and their prices have been going up, and there are no longer the good deals that used to be there. It's really quite annoying. Grr.

Yes Lyn please do share your sources wih us fellow Canadians.

I would say kep what you love, maybe purge a few things if you don't love them. If you can manage the huge wardrobe then great! And perhaps less shopping for a while until you figure out what is a keeper.

Oops - we posted at the same time...I see your sources there now.

@ Ariadne - I subscribe to Angie's mantra of "leave no retail stone unturned" - I frequently shop online, so it might not help you to know the sources too much.

My Canadian favourites are:
- Rickis (Cardigans, Dresses, Work Attire, Accessories)
- Smart Set (Tops, Basics, Accessories)
- Reitmans (Accessories)
- Flurries (Footwear)
- SoftMoc (Footwear)
- Winners (Purses, Jackets, Footwear)
- Le Chateau (Formal wear, Work Attire)

My Online Resources
- ModCloth (Vintage inspired dresses; has better sales than Ruche; A++ customer service)
- Ruche (Vintage inspired dresses; often ModCloth stuff at cheaper prices)
- Dorothy Perkins (For my does of Brit; esp online sales and free international shipping days!)

I'm not sure your size, but if you're bigger than a UK10 (US 4-ish); then other stores I see nice stuff in but I never fit anything:
- Reitmans (basics, dresses)
- Cleo (more classic pieces; but they have cute dresses and coats)

@ Rayma - I have a 1.5 km walk to get to the subway-thingy; and then 1/2 block walk after that. It's not really that far, and the colder it is, the faster I walk (haha). I make sure I have boots with really good grip (falling is so not fab) and fleece-lined tights if I need them. Right now, I have been just wearing regular tights. I also wear long jackets, so they are quite warm! + Furry hat is a must! Keep my head warm!

@ L'Abeille - Yay! Thanks for your thoughts as a sister in the trenches I used to think being a house officer would be so cool, now I know it's just sleep deprivation. I definitely bring lipstick and a flattering blush for rounds the next morning. If I'm especially rebellious, I wear a lipstick that's a bit more funky than I would normally - I figure no one is gonna bug me about it when I'm post-call. *snarl*

Well, my wardrobe will never compete with yours for size or fabulousness, but here are my suggestions as a fellow in the trenches with you.

(1) My first year as a house officer was the first summer I did not tan. You can spend so much time in the hospital during daylight hours that you lose track of what time of year it is. One antidote is to divide your wardrobe into 4 separate seasonal capsules. I'm wearing pink and florals? It must be spring. Navy and stripes? It's summer, even if I can't see or feel it. Etc. You might want to swap them out more often eg your monthly rotation, but at least this will give some shape to when you wear your things.

(2) Those people making comments about their own scrubs are just jealous of how pulled-together you are. Don't sink to meet the lowest common denominator!

(3) Definitely bring a second fab outfit to wear the day after the night on call. You need the psychic boost it gives you, even if it doesn't replace the sleep you missed. I always take my overnight bag and plan ahead for comfort, colours flattering to my skin tone after sleep deprivation (lipstick helps too), and I challenge myself to come up with 2 separate outfits that look completely different but work with the same shoes, coat and bra.

(4) Unless you're tired of stuff or feel it's outdated, don't get rid of fab stuff that you love for no reason. The time will come when you have opportunity for a more dressy life, and also less time to shop (kids?) so remember you're still in a state of flux.

As far as the incoming goes though--maybe you can find a different way to spend your mad money?

Sure, the idea is not to throw out something you love, but to find the balance of where your things are fun and not a burden--whether psychological or otherwise. Your OP indicated you might have some concerns about not wearing things you have. Even though it has been an exhortation "wear what you have!", I think even that is based on the "usual" situation, which is that many people begin to feel some angst or regret about things being stored and not worn and so those clothes are no longer part of the fun. The key is, that isn't always true, and not always true for every kind of not-worn item, so again, there's no law that you have to wear everything, and it's not a problem if it isn't bothering you not to do so! But if it is, then some kind of change would be needed--change your wardrobe, or change your thinking! Pretty basic.

i kinda have the same problem but with coctail dresses *scoffs* and i don't go out lol they so pretty and just strickly evening wear that im left with blahs casual style i usually invest a lot in this dresses
but to tell the truth INSTYLE have been helping me with rethinking how to shop and not splurg i think wearing multiple outfits a day is just plain nonsence i think you need to think which one *the oldest* you should let it go to someone who might need it (charity) and leave the ones that truly compliment u cuz i can't say stop shopping cuz that's like a nightmare to me so just stick with classics when u shop and just a item on trend to not splurg

I think you've chosen great items. If you feel you have the space for them, I say a combination of b, c and d. It is not a bad problem to have and you'd not want to have purge regrets. I'd try to wear each item to road test it and if you find a flaw (like scratchiness) then put it in your gentle purge area. Otherwise enjoy your options!

Hmmm, anxious to know what you decide. I too have a "love" and not enough places to wear them. I'm leaning towards keeping it all, rotating every month, keeping the out of rotation items out of sight if possible. See how much you really miss them. It is possible that some will become a distant memory.

I have found the purge will usually happen on its own, no sense to forcing it if you are not ready.

The beauty about clothing (other than the intrinsic) is that it does not feel neglected if left for a month without use. If you love them all, keep them all. Perhaps a better solution than discarding loved items, is to plan around them to ensure they don't get crowded out in the next few months.

It was nice to see you again. Love the first bag and the blue dress.

Along with bj-- do you have more " depth" in one item or capsule than you can use? Buy to replace and not add in those categories? Identify the top 90% ?Spend the same amount of $$ on fewer items, or start adding some $ each month to a wardrobe savings account. You may be well- dressed now, but never underestimate how career and lifestyle changes may have you reevaluating what's fab a few years from now.

All of your solutions are good!

I would purge: but instead of throwing away, I would store away, and rotate every month like you suggested. However, I wouldn't change the whole closet every month, only re-evaluate which items get to go in the closet and which go to storage. That way you can explore your items and their possibilities.

Or you could be very minimalist, challenge yourself and allow yourself only say, 3 bottoms, 2 dresses and 5 tops a week. Then try your best to make the most out of these and change articles after a week. You could allow yourself to go fish for a different top or bottom mid-week is you have a special inspiration, after all you don't want to be masochistic.

You can take things out of your closet and throw them together on your bed for new unexpected pairings. Then chose the rest of the items according to this new "direction" for a week.

Or you can sort your items by colour. Sometimes this is very inspiring and reminds us to wear items we had forgotten about. Some colours match really well, but until we put it side by side we don't know, for example turquoise and navy, pink and orange etc. This way you get to use more of your wardrobe.

Sorting your clothes will also be useful to determine if you have repeat and if you tend to be a serial buyer of one specific item.

What a wonderful "problem"! I would agree that you shouldn't keep anything under a 9. Love, love, love all your purchases, especially that first bag - gorgeous.

Lyn so good to see you:) Perhaps a gentle purge is in order. I would be reassessing what's in my closet and considering the future of anything you rate less than a 9:)

My killer puffer is a Soia & Kyo jacket I found at Winners. It was almost $200; but it seemed warm and I liked that it had two separate zippers - one was a 'short' underjacket that you could keep zipped up for when you are driving, and there is the long length for when you're not sitting as much - great for someone like me with a walking part of the commute and a riding part :)

Bluefly used to have the same jacket ($190; Reg $345); but they are currently sold out - http://www.bluefly.com/Soia---.....detail.fly

****

I have also found that I love fit-and-flare with prints ... and this is causing me some problems; as I find prints that I like (cars, cats, birds, etc) are quite distracting for me while I work; so I have been trying to find things that are more of a solid colour or a simple pattern (dots, stripes).

I find a lot of people at work comment about what I wear ... in sort of a backhand-ish way. As in, "I am wearing scrubs when I am overnight so I am more comfortable. You shouldn't wear a dress." I find it's my way of rebelling against the system - haha; punk rebel me! Just wait until I dye my hair pink.

I like the idea of a soft purge. As you continue working, you might discover more reasons to purge that aren't apparent even now. You can set things aside that feel off when you wear them and figure out what's up.

puffer love!

the dresses scream "lyn*"...you have great style fidelity. sometimes, this can lead to buying the "same" item over and over again. so i wonder if some of the dresses may be duplicating others in your closet in cut or style or feel? they are wonderful dresses as are the ones in your current closet, but that may be a starting point, no?
