I had the same coat issue — many options but it turned out once I reviewed them that I had a wealth of wool coats and short puffers, and actually lacked good functional waterproof options. That’s why I think I’m keeping the Pendleton — it fits a need in between my Burberry and my Helly Hansen.

Not much help from me, I'm afraid. I love the teal Pendleton on you, but for your stated purpose, I'd go with the TNF, which looks great on, and is a lovely color. The Pendleton is a great deal, so if you can afford it, keep both.

The shoulders on the Pendleton are stiff because of how the waterproof seams all come together there, combined with the way the hood snaps fit. It makes the shoulders stand off my body slightlu. It is a bit odd, but it does fit well. I think it's just the nature of this style. It doesn't do this when the top snaps are undone.

The NF parka would be totally fine 85% of the time here. It doesn't rain the way it does other places...it mostly just drizzles constantly for weeks on end. So full coverage is usually not that critical.

Also, it does have a two way zipper as well, but I'd think it's not a useful on a shorter coat.

Both coats have exactly the same numer and placement of pockets. But none of the Pendleton pockets zip, while all of thr NF do. However, the side pockets on the Pendleton are deeper.

I already own an amazing Stutterheim raincoat (the collaboration with Garance Dore in transparent, white, and pink). That one has no insulation, so it's perfect for Spring and early Fall. As for quilted or warmer lined raincoats and actually don't have one that fits. I have a Burberry trench that's got a removeable liner. That would be a functional dupe of the Pendleton IF it fit...
And the stutterheim does layer wonderfully over bulky sweaters and such. But it's ever so slightly high maintenance due to the color. It has to be scrubbed using a magic eraser sponge.

As for other warm coats, I have a long puffer (from Universal Standard, a sort of wrap style thats extremely flatter for a puffer) that is too dressy and got no wear during the lockdown, and a short velvet puffer from Sweaty Betty that got a lot of wear (too much, hence need for raincoat version).

The Pendleton would be a cousin of the Stutterheim, I think, for colder days. I won't get rid of my Burberry because it's iconic and maybe I'll pass it down to my daughter, but it's not really an option. I can fit into it technically, but it's not super comfortable the way it was when I bought it (in a size up, bless!) 13 years ago.
I had almost convinced myself to return the Pendleton, because I am trying to be conservative with purchases, but it IS less than 150. It seems a bit silly to return such a useful coat that could give me years of use for a good price.
But, as a few have mentioned, it's prompted me to take another hard look at my coats. I'm holding on to far more than I should that aren't getting worn for various reasons. My sense is that I have some holes that all the inventory is obscuring.

Same as kkards—consider editing your current coat collection with an eye to how these new coats could be better options than one or more of your existing coats, given your current needs and preferences. It’s been my experience that a new favourite usually means less wear for one or more existing items so why not consider passing on the older item while it is still in reasonably good shape?

And, for what’s it’s worth, I really like the fit and color of the Pendleton—my immediate reaction was a big thumbs up for it!

I prefer the color and fit of the TNF on you. And, it seems like it ticks the boxes for what you need. But, I can see keeping both, depending on what else is in your closet and how well you can layer under either of these.

Are they both breathable? If one lets moisture build up, would you reach for it? The Pendleton sounds like old school waterproof. TNF jacket sounds smart WRT pockets. I have things by both companies and really like both.

ETA: a lighter color is better in the rain - you’re more likely to be seen by drivers.

I’ve always loved a good pocket, but the last 16 months have made me even aware of them…so for that reason alone, I’d lean towards the TNF…
BUT, as you really like them both, I’d lean towards keeping both, and reviewing what you currently own and passing on some of what’s in your closet now that’s not working

The teal is a beautiful color and I like the longer length but the shoulders do look a little “off” to me. Both colors look good on you so I would choose the more comfortable and practical. Or keep both

I like them both, having tried on both myself. I prefer the longer length of the Pendleton since it has a two way zipper than allows the bottom to be unzipped to allow for more freedom of movement. I hear you about zip pockets though — lately I’m having a hard time finding good hiking pants with zip pockets, which makes me think that some makers are cutting corners.

I have a slight preference for the teal on you to the sage green, although I love both. My sugar eye for teal is probably playing a role in that preference!

I prefer the sage. The turquoise is lovely, but the shoulders seem a bit big? Could just be how you’re standing. I like the streamlined sleeves and hood on the sage coat as well, cleaner looking fit. Do you anticipate wanting bulky layers underneath? That would be a big point in the turquoise coat’s favor.

Hmm, I actually like the NF one better on you. I would keep that one and send Pendleton back. Or maybe you can take some more pictures so we get a better sense? I really don't see what's special about the Pendleton coat other than the color, which is more vibrant. But I think NF works better with your coloring anyway.

The short one is more of a run to the car type unless you pair it with rain pants, the longer one is much better coverage, especially if you'll be standing still or sitting at a playground in wet weather.

The first will look clean longer too.

I like the second one on you but it would be an "extra" rather than first choice. Maybe both?

The color of Pendleton coat is gorgeous on you! I also like slightly longer length - dressy in a city ( versus sporty at the playground ). Both a fab coats - not an easy task to choose one ( unless you keep both ).

Well, darlings, the Pendleton coat I ordered to second-guess my TNF parka purchase arrived. I QUITE like it. As a coat, I prefer it. The color is stunning on me, the fabric feels very waterproof, the zippers sturdy and dependable. The length and shape are glorious and dressy...but. I'm supposed to be here for a playground coat. As such, the NF parka is more appropriate.
TNF parka is just past hip length and fits close but not tight. A small miracle given my large chest (I am a 34HH, size 12, I got the Large).
Both coats pass the "running and climbing" test, although the NF one works better for movement.
Both coats are quilted, and both are waterproof. But TNF parka is shorter and lighter in weight (but just as warm. It's lighter due to a lighter shell material). It also has zipper pockets, while none of the Pendleton pockets zip. TNF one also has a removable hood, although I doubt I'd ever take it off.

I'm seriously considering keeping the Pendleton coat, even though the NF fits my goals for this purchase better. Mostly, because it's very pretty and good quality (especially at the under 150 usd price). And, in wet PNW a waterproof quilted coat is never going unworn. But I do need to purge my coat collection if I'm to keep them both.

Any thoughts that I'm missing that might help me eliminate one and safe some money? Although, at this price these coats seem like a very good value.
