I bought 3 maxis for summer--all casual. Two of them are regular maxi length, while one has a high-low hem. I bought them for our vacations, as it gets so hot in the places we go. I hope they don't go out of style; but if they do, I'll still wear them.

I think maxi's will be around for a long time - at least I hope so, as I own several :)

Since you now the fit will be spot on, I say go for it!

I agree that maxi's in some form or other are classic. They just seem to solve so many issues and the supporting act can be updated. The hem you've got is a real plus.

I don't currently have a maxi but have kept an eye out. It's so hard to get regular dresses long enough , so go
long or go home!
But more to the point, I'm becoming a huge convert to formula- dressing in what works for one's figure and lifestyle, with tweaks.

Honestly, I wouldn't enable unless the right conditions were met. I have seen you in this dress (in pics, obviously, lol!) and I have seen the street style of your city, thanks to your pics on that other thread, and I have an idea of the kind of demands your clothes need to meet, and this is one flattering and useful item on you. Definitely one of your summer wardrobe essentials.

I hate it when a knit starts to pill! And you can never predict it. I have knits from Walmart that have lasted a decade (unnatural fibers that wear like iron), and expensive pieces that need to be shaved every day!

These dresses should be just as fab in your wardrobe next summer. I vote replace, as long as the return policy is good.

Jenn, I am totally in favour if getting another. I say order it and see. The hi-low style is dynamite on you and it's the perfect dress for your lifestyle. You have a good two months more to wear it this year alone. Buy.

This is such a great look for you Jenn. I love how it looks on you and it works so well for your life. Why not get another one that is as close to the original? Maxis seem to be going strong.

Whenever I have had a great wardrobe item that I didn't duplicate I have regretted it. Just today I was mourning my black slouch pants from 2 years ago and my olive green cargo pants from 10 years ago. Really I should have bought doubles.

I love the eshakti and think you could boho-it up with accessories, yes.
You've had such great success with eshakti that it seems like a life-simplifying move to just get another great dress from them.
I also like the fact that it's a woven, making it far more durable.

I think the high-low hem on these dresses makes them more than just a "maxi" dress. If this is a workhorse for you, I'd go ahead and get a replacement. If you don't wear it much this year, there's always next year! I don't think this style will look dated next summer.

It's only mid-July so there's still plenty of warm weather to come this summer. It seems like it's worth a try since it's such a similar dress to your existing dress that you wear all the time. Hopefully the eShakti one will last longer.

Jenn -- You are replacing a much loved, much worn item -- so I say go for it. Maxi dresses obviously have a place in your summer wardrobe -- and the hi-lo style looks fabulous on you. If you find one or two of these now, I say grab them. You still have plenty of warm weather left this season… and will have them for next summer. I, too, have been picking up a few new dresses end of season as I know I will wear them even into next year.

I bought a black maxi as a wild card early this summer, and I've been majorly loving it. We've had a hot, hot season already, with about twenty days over 90° and another twenty in the 80s, and we still have another month and a half to two months to go.

My maxi is starting to look worn already. It's just a small amount of pilling that no one but me would probably notice, but it was a $20 dress and I know it's probably not going to last beyond this year, if that. My husband, quite practically, said, "Well, get another one and put it in the closet for later," but the style I have is sold out both in-store and online, so that plan has been foiled.

I've had good luck with eShakti dresses, and I found a style there (see first two Finds) that's quite similar to my current workhorse (Find #3) . The eShakti version seems a little more retro and less boho than mine, but some of that may be in the styling, and both are a casual cotton knit.

So, my questions are:
1. Is it too late to be adding summer dresses? Should I just tough it out?
2. Are maxis going away anytime soon?
3. Do you think the eShakti version would work for me, style-wise? I know fit will be spot-on.
