Good job, Katie! Sometimes we have to take a fashion risk, and it's so rewarding when it works out.

I love the shorts with tall socks look! You can always pair that with a pair of bold boots or tights if you want to make the look warmer but since you are indoors in the library anything goes. I bet you some students are going to be wearing just frumpy Pink sweatpants and not even worrying about their look so you will already have the cute factor covered

Funny, I remember going to school in the snow in a plaid skirt and knee socks every day, because that was the UNIFORM! Of course, this was before girls were allowed to wear pants to school. Can you believe it? Hard to even imagine what my daughters would think of that, but it was what we had to do. I think I remember just dealing with it, really cold, chapped knees and all :). So go for it!

I wouldn't think someone looked ridiculous if she was wearing this outfit and it was 50 degrees. If you're worried that you might get cold, could you bring along a pair of tights just in case? I think you're not going to know unless you try, because some people can handle cold better than others.

Right. So I've been waiting years for the right temp to wear a skirt and knee socks. It's the drafts that bother me. I think 65-68 F is maybe the right temp for me... Yes, good luck to me, I know!

Did you try it?

It has a lot to do with your personal temperature tolerance. I would be quite comfortable wearing the outfit you describe, but I run hot. I personally believe actual temperatures should guide our decisions, not a season or a month.

Yesterday it was 50 degrees and sunny here. We saw several adults wearing shorts and baring lots of leg. I think your outfit sounds fine, even for December, if you are warm enough.

I like the tights idea, too. FWIW, I was stuck at a research library in Arkansas this summer where they kept the temp at 58 to try to quell the horrendous humidity. I was freezing even while wearing jeans and a coat. If all you are doing is sitting, you can get quite chilled as you are not creating much body heat via movement.

I think it works as long as you don't feel cold. 50 degrees is the warmest it will be for a while and is a bit warm for this time of year so why not enjoy it. Plus you are going to the library, not to a job interview or a formal workplace so why not.

Well, I would freeze even indoors, but it's quite likely that if you had a very cosy- looking and feeling sweater, and socks on the warm side, the look would fit the slightly seasonally confused but fall- ish styles even with some bare leg.
The easy way to fix it is to wear tights of some sort that are fun with the skirt. For a casual look, they would not have to be black! Also then for young gals especially, shorter skirts, skater skirts and the like look great with tights and look very seasonal. But it sounds like you might be warm enough indoors either way.

Is 50ºF (and sunny) too cold to be wearing a short skirt with thick knit thigh-high socks and a giant sweater? All in all, I think there would be maybe two inches of exposed thigh. I will be stuck in the library all day, so warmth is really not a huge concern. I'm just worried about looking ridiculous since it is technically December.
