I definitely prefer lighter colours on a hot day. It’s just hard to find light colours that suit me. One of the challenges of summer. Going darker on top and lighter on bottom is a good face flattery compromise for me on very hot days. And yes to sun coverage. I don’t miss my old morning routine of smothering my legs in sunblock before going for a walk. Some more tonal looks to share.</p> <p>Pics 1-2: I wore this outfit to walk my dog on a hot day. Both the top and skirt are DIY dye, a combination of marigold and taupe. The skirt is a weaker dye solution. It’s easy to create tones when you DIY dye! I cut the hem off the tee because the contrast stitching didn’t take the dye and that bothered me. You can see the unfinished hem has rolled nicely. The skirt is linen and I took this photo after going to the dog park. So… wrinkles. But I was happy that I came home without added dog paw prints. Light colours at the dog park are problematic.</p> <p>It’s all a fairly tonal mix of golden yellow and brown tones. The necklace is red and purple, my little pop of contrasting colour. And there are some black elements: shoe soles, necklace band, hat band, sunnies. </p> <p>I match my dog, but she wears these colours better :)</p> <p>Pics 3-5: I went out to lunch with some former colleagues. Sort of a Christmas get together so I wanted to dress up a little.</p> <p>I wore the floral skirt I showed in my previous tonal (green) post. This time I leant into the yellow/gold tones of the skirt rather than the green tones. I wore a gold metallic top with an olive green tank underneath it. The green tank brings out the pattern of the gold top while also deepening the gold colour so it’s more consistent with the green undertone of the skirt. (Also makes the light gold top a more flattering colour for me.) Quite a lot of (subtle) pattern mixing and textural variation happening. As well as a mix of metallics. But to me it all toned. Do you agree? </p>
