Sorry... I had an afterthought!

DD16 loves to experiment with fake eyelashes - the more dramatic, the better. At Halloween she encouraged me to try on a set of fake eyelashes. I got the lashes on the top on okay, but when I tried applying to the bottom lashes, I suddenly couldn't see a thing - except lashes that tickled my cheeks!!!

And that is precisely what I mean when I say my eyes are a funny shape and recessed and my cheek bones get in the way.

On the plus side, the whole experiment gave me a new respect for God. He certainly knew what he was doing when he gave me such sparse and undramatic eyelashes! They do look best with my face.

Just the top for me too. My eyelashes are light in color, sparse, but long. And longer on bottom than on top! I can very easily get that spiderey effect Maya mentions.

What's more, it just looks all wrong with the shape of my eyes, which are small and kinda recessed. I think it shrinks my eyes even more and closes them up. Actually I don't like any eye shadow at all - just liner sometimes (top only) and at most a bit of white or other highlighter color on the brow. I've learned through the years that eye shadow somehow shrinks my eyes even more, instead of opening them up.

Also I have pudgy-ish cheeks so my eyelashes will kinda rest funny on my cheeks, especially when I smile. Mascara on lower lashes would give me a weird caterpillar effect, like something is crawling on my cheeks!

I may not apply it right though. I never quite got the knack for the whole mascara thing - I just know I need it on the upper lashes. I have long had trouble with clumping issues, until I found Lash Blast. I love that mascara! You don't need to be an expert to apply it.

DD16 meanwhile has completely different shaped eyes and she loves to do both top and bottom lashes, with interesting liner colors, etc, for most dramatic effect. Her eyes were naturally made for eye makeup!

I just do the top, personally. I used to do make-up for Clinique events and I found that most people who don't do heavy make-up are happier with the look of just top because it is lighter and does "lift the eyes" a bit. That being said, I'd experiment with both because some eye shapes just look better one way or the other.

Since I found the perfect daytime mascara that DOES NOT SMEAR or SMUDGE...EVER...I do use a bit on my bottom lashes.

I do. I have long lashes. If I don't apply mascara to the bottom lashes as well, my lids look like they are going to topple over.

I don't wear makeup anymore but when I did I wouldn't bother with the bottom lashes, simply because I don't have enough of them, and also, usually when I see other women with their bottom lashes done, they get the spider leg effect and their eyes look more droopy than lifted (as San mentioned). Perhaps it depends on your skill and the quality of the product though.

I was told by a makeup artist who works for a makeup company, that as an older woman I should not put makeup under my eyes because we want the eye lifted. This is sort of related to the original topic.
I'm much happier since I quit trying to put mascara on the lower lashes which usually resulted in a mess.

You will notice that Carmindy sometimes does day looks and sometimes does evening looks. Maybe that's why she sometimes does lower lashes?
Her two makeup books are very helpful, for what it's worth.

For every day wear, I'll apply it to the top lashes only. Bu for evenings and special occasions, I'll put it on the bottom lashes too, especially if I'm doing 'smoky eye' make up look.

I apply just a touch to the lower lashes. I think it makes the eye look more complete and balanced. Mascara and brow pencil are the only eye make-up products I wear though. I don't use eye shadow or liner.

I don't always apply it to the bottom lash. If I want an especially dramatic eye (with neutral lip) I do apply mascara to the bottom lash.

If you wear mascara on a daily basis--do you apply it to your bottom lashes?

Carmendie on WNTW sometimes specifically does not apply mascara to bottom lashes--but sometimes she does. What's up with that?
