I prefer coats like this to look generously cut, so I like the Medium. A smaller size can look skimpy.

They're both good in their own way. I think it boils down to a feel thing.
I think I would prefer having the longer sleeves.

I prefer the medium. The slimness of the small disturbs me, as if you were underweight.

I like the medium but I lean toward a bit of ease in coats. I would imagine you want room for a couple of layers underneath.

If the M is more comfortable, I'd say go for it. Low armholes are usually the key sign I should size down, though, but I think the length of the sleeves and the ease of wear in the M make up for that.

I also the like the trim look of the small better, but if the medium is more functional in terms of sleeve length and under layers, then that's the right choice. The fit on the medium also looks good.

I also really like that color on you. Very pretty.

I like the look of the small better, but I think you should try it on over what you would realistically wear with it, because it may feel too tight once you put on a sweater and underlayer.

I would go for the M even though the S looks better on the shoulders. I also dislike getting my wrists and forearms chilly in the Winter. But, seriously, will such a skinny coat provide enough warmth for your Winters???

I think it depends on the layers that you may want to wear underneath. Also try the sit down test with the coats zipped. Is the small size too tight to sit in? Pretend that you are driving. How do sleeves feel? Does either size bunch up in the middle too much?
Last year's NAS I bought a very similar coat in the smaller size and kind of wish I had sized up. I ended up keeping an older black puffer to layer over bulkier items.

As coats go, I'd take the medium. It's a COAT, not a blazer, so you want it to function like one (that emphasis was for my realization, not yours. I can often make that mistake.) The only place I've ever seen people wear coats that fit like a glove is in Iceland, where outerwear is innerwear, or all-the-time wear. Unless you're in a climate like that, my vote is the M. It's plenty flattering!

I snapped two quick photos of the TNF coat over my walking gear this morning. The small is a tad shorter in the arms and in overall length but fits well in the torso. It's plenty loose with room for layering - see photos from yesterday. The armholes are where they are supposed to be.

The medium is longer and cover my shorts completely. The armholes are low if that makes any sense? The sleeves are long. The torso is very very roomy. I'm leaning towards keeping the medium mostly because of the longer sleeves. I like pulling sleeves down over my hands when they're cold.
