Wanted to return to this to say thank you for your wise input and suggestions. I think because it is nearing the end of the season I may wait and try my luck with new summer footwear next year. Thank you for all of your great ideas!

I have two pairs and essentially wear only one of them. My Cordani's are worn, and tired and will probably go in the bin at the end of the summer. The straps are stretched and not worth fixing. I won't replace them. The Mephisto are staying. I love the metallic croc leather. They go with everything and are so comfortable. For cold weather I have some non-cork wedges. They look more polished, and I like them better than the cork.

I had to go research my cork wedges – I found four! One metallic mini-wedge, two tan ones and one patent black – all leather. Shown below and I'm not planning on getting rid of them anytime soon. I love the feminine feel of the high heel/platform ones, they are perhaps a little old-fashioned/dated but a still a classic style for me.

I, too, like wedge heels, but not cork sandals. I went with flatter sandals (Birkenstocks) this summer, though I like the non-cork wedges in some previous posts.

I adore wedges for the stability, and wear them year round. They work marvelously for tromping around the cobblestone city sidewalks here. For summer they work great for walking on grass.

That said, I like the cork & espiradrile styles but often find it difficult to find a pair that isn't horribly heavy. I cannot stand to wear shoes that are heavy. So I cannot say I have any of these, or have worn them in years and years. I admire them in the stores, pick them up, feel how heavy they are, and don't even bother trying them on. Or see them online and note the weight listed in the specs and pass right on by...

The wedges I'm wearing this summer look like this... maybe not the height of fashion but super comfortable! And Lightweight!

I'm just getting started with wedges... but I did give away some cork wedge sandals earlier this year. On the sandal front, I've gone faux birkies and peep-toe d'orsay flats.

I never had any cork ones, but do have a couple of espadrille-style wedges. I still love the look of them in theory, but haven't worn them once this year! For various reasons (weight gain, fab sneaker options, a cool summer) my style took a turn for casual this year. I'm not wearing my dresses at all. I am wearing a lot of boyfriend-length jeans, which don't seem right with a casual espadrille wedge, although I love them with dressier heels (which in my world still have to be walking-friendly - no pumps!).
I'd wait until next year to figure out what you want and replenish your summer footwear. I have to be pretty careful about selecting non-wedge heels due to my wobbly ankles, and my options are limited, but it is possible to find pairs that are stable. comfortable and "just refined enough" to give a dressier vibe. Metallics help.

I like wedge heels a lot because they fit so nicely in the sweet spot of giving me extra height without feeling as fussy or uncomfortable as other types of heels can. But I overdosed on cork wedge sandals for a few years, then kind of stopped wearing them. I've gotten rid of all of them except for one pair, which I actually don't think I've worn at all this year.

In particular, I used to wear them to work a lot in the summer because I have a fairly casual office and they hit the balance between overly dressy and overly casual pretty well. I have one pair of wedge heels I've been wearing a lot for the past two years that sort of fills that niche, but feels a little more current (the Bialas below). I've also been wearing a lot more closed-toe flats, especially pointy ones like the others I've collected.

I'm also wearing flat sandals for things like going out to casual-ish dinners. Which I was always wearing anyway, but I used to look at going out to dinner as a good excuse to break out the wedges to dress things up a tiny bit. I actually held onto my last pair of wedges because I thought I might want them for that, but apparently I don't like them enough to find excuses to wear them anymore.

A wedge heel is my preferred heel type but I have not worn a cork wedge heel. That doesn't quite work for my style. I think wedge heels are quite timeless, depending in the overall look of the shoe:)

I'm not into the wedge heel as it can be a bit chunky for petites. I prefer a small block heel, a kitten heel or a finer mid heel when it comes to heels.....as they appear more feminine, flattering to a small woman and sexy to my eye. In saying that, the wedge can look good on many, but they are just not quite right on my petite frame and don't reflect my style.

I had a pair of summer peeptoe wedges with cork heels that I purged last winter and I haven't really missed them. There are so many other fun summer styles this year - gladiators still, and the Birk knockoffs, etc. I still do have some regular non cork wedges in my year round rotation - they're just so much more comfy to walk in than other heels.

I still have a pair or cork wedges, but I've only worn them a couple of times this summer. I did purchase platform wedges from Crocs (yep - that's them below), that I like for their 40's feel, and their extreme comfort. I also purchased a DSW knock off of the Vince Camuto's that Suz posted.

Do you still like them? Do they represent your style well even if they're not trending. Mo's comment about loving her wooden shoes is important -- I think when an item is central to our core style we can continue to wear it after the trend fades and still look and feel fab. Items that I've purchased mostly to enjoy a trend are often not as long lasting -- which is OK too, as long as I had fun with fashion!

I got tired of my husband cracking "old lady" jokes whenever I wore my cork wedge sandals. Although, to be fair, I don't think the wedge heel was the problem; I think the bejewelled uppers was what put him off. Anyway, my enthusiasm for them was already waning, and then the lining disintegrated, so I pitched them. I replaced them with gladiator-ish flats. I added a couple of pics below. Mr. A much prefers them, but I admit that there are several skirts I haven't worn this summer because I need a bit of a heel for them to look right. New wedge heels are on my list for next summer, but they will be black or silver leather next time!

I have these Kork-Ease cork wedges. I bought them last year in a natural vachetta color. I didn't like the color and so this year dyed them antique silver. I bought two more pairs in cream and taupe, but returned them when I didn't wear them for four months. I've worn the dyed ones quite a bit in spite of the fact that they're 3 inches in the back and about 2 inches in the front. The color really works with my new color scheme of greys and blues.

This year I bought two pairs of Bernardo Maverick flat sandals, in Luggage and black. I love them in spite of zero support.

I also bought these Minnetonka sandals in pewter. They were kind of crummy and a waste of money even though they were inexpensive.

I have one pair of cork wedge sandals (bought last year), but I haven't been wearing them as much as I thought I would. But I do love the extra support that the wedge heel gives.

My only sandal purchase this summer was the Sofft Solana, but it's not as comfortable as a wedge. It's more comfy than most heels but still not something I would take a walk in if I didn't have to.

I spent most of my summer wearing some flat Josef Seibel comfort sandals (three years old; this will be their last season) and my new Frye flats.

I think that a cork wedge is kind of a classic, so I wouldn't get rid of all of them. I especially like to wear them with jeans, because they can dress up the jeans but are still casual.

I have been pulling mine out less and less this summer. Which sort of makes me sad. I loved the cork wedge- height and comfort! But they just didn't jive with the new silhouettes. Like you, I didn't replace much this year; have been wearing flat sandals similar to Janet's selections and oxfords. But at this point, I think I'll wait till next summer to catch up.

As I looked at my summer shoes capsule, I realized I didn't buy much new this year, and my sandals and warm weather shoes felt kind of frumpy. I noticed I have predominantly cork wedges in different heights, colors and materials because they stay on my feet and I can comfortably walk in them. I'm curious, do you still have these in your wardrobe? If not, what did you replace them with?
