Complete agreement about the good bra. Makes a world of difference.

One thing that works for me is the column of color. Top and bottom of same or similar color, topped with a jacket that flatters your neckline (in my case a V helps my short neck), presents a strong, slimming vertical. I find this column of color and jacket combo works especially well when I wish to wear belts.

If you like scarves, they work to your advantage by lifting the eye up and away from your waist. So many pretty ones now!

I clicked onto this one in glee, I have to admit. Thanks Suz, for this link - I need to revisit this. Funny, I have never considered myself an apple, but I suppose when you carry extra weight in your lower stomach area, that makes you an apple. Duh. I have always thought of myself as hourglass, and when I'm not in shape, just , well, not in shape but still an hourglass.

Rainbow - I'm like you in that I wear a S or M in tops and jackets, yet now have extra to deal with in the stomach area (menopause, cough) . I don't always get it right, but I still wear some unfitted. boxier tunics or tops as long as they have some drape and ease of wear. It's tough though, I know. My biggest challenge is not being able to semi-tuck or tuck anything in, thereby looking a little dumpy sometimes. But I'm not sure what the option is.

I look forward to the rest of this thread!

The best tip I can give is to wear the right bra to keep your chest properly supported. Once I started wearing the right size (and maybe also slouching less), people started asking if I had lost weight even though I had actually put on a few pounds.

Thanks for sharing that, Suz. A lot of what Angie suggests is what I do. I'm an hourglass with apple tendencies. Whenever I gain weight, it goes to my waist.

In addition to what krishnidoux says, I'd like to say that I battle this all the time, and I find that ruching works wonders. Wrap dresses work well, too, and jackets hide a multitude of problems. Don't wear anything that's boxy, body con or oversized. Instead, try to wear things that fit properly and skim the body without clinging or making you look like you're wearing a tent. I personally avoid horizontal stripes and any clothing detail that emphasizes my stomach. I hope this helps!

It's always tricky to dress in order to hide a body part, and much easier to work with it.
Here are some suggestions for dressing a tummy: side ruffles, empire waists, higher waists.

Hi everyone! I'm new here and recently found lots of interesting discussions on YLF. Wonder, maybe I can seek for some advice here.
I'm overall actually slim enough, wearing S or M clothing size, but my problem area is tummy. I feel like it makes me look plumper than I am. Are there any tips (aside wearing loose tops) what I can wear to make my look slimmer?
Thank you!
