I've heard of people finding great deals on designer duds because the listing had the designer name misspelled. Although the spelling of "Burberry" is pretty straightforward, I would try it a few different ways anyway.

YES, that is a very good point about the sizing! If the seller hasn't listed the measurements, send a message and ask for them, and compare those measurements to a coat you already have that fits you well

I don't really have any ebay tips but I'm keeping an eye on this thread since I am kind of obsessing over them also.

I will add that you should make sure you ascertain whether or not the sizing is US or UK sizing, as they are different. UK sizing is usually 1-2 sizes smaller than US. For example, Burberry says that a US 8 is the same as a UK 10, but other retailers say US 8 = UK 12, so you might want to try some on in a store first.

Rebekah and Rae - thank you for your pointers, I really appreciate them.

La Belle, I'm going to have to go back and take copious notes on what you wrote. Invaluable eBay advice in general - thank you!

I've stalked a few items in my day, and for this, I set up searches and saved them. Every day, I would get an email from eBay for each search I saved (you can play with these settings).

When you get a daily search results email from ebay, it usually highlights newly listed items within your search, which saves time. But you can click a link to review all the results of your search.

For your Burberry, I would set up three different searches:

#1:
Type Burberry in search
Choose: Vintage -> Women's Vintage Clothing
Click on "Product Type" and select "Coats and Jackets" AND "Not Specified"
You can decide if you only want results from a certain area. Worldwide, I got 25 items.

Save this search. (Note: In Vintage, there isn't a way to select specific sizes, but again, there isn't a lot of Burberry turning up in this category)

#2
Type Burberry in search
Choose:  Women's Clothing -> Coats & Jackets
Click on Size and choose every size option that you think will potentially fit you well, as well as "Not specified" (for my sizing, this pulls up around 600 coats, so I usually also sort by Price + Shipping = Lowest First, and I browse that way)
If you know for certain that there is a specific color range you want, choose those colors (I always click "not specified")
Save this search

#3
Type Burberry in search
Choose: Women's Clothing -> Suits & Blazers (I did this and the first page has two trenches.)
Choose your size range, etc.
Save this search

Some general notes:

I don't buy anything from someone with less than 25 transactions- but for designer items, I don't buy anything from someone with less 100 transactions - and I check to make sure that at least half of those transactions are sales, not purchases.

I don't bid on anything from anyone who has less than 92-93% satisfaction ratings. If someone has bought and sold 15 items, and isn't at 100% satisfaction - chances are they are going to take you for a ride.

It sounds very persnickety, but there are a lot of fakes on eBay. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If someone has a brand-name item up for auction, for cheap, and there are no bids on it with 1-2 days left to go... chances are the item is a fake.

If you have ANY doubts about a seller, go read their feedback, even if they have a 100% satisfaction rating. Sometimes people won't give a negative rating, about a bad experience, because they don't want to take a retaliatory 'hit' to their own feedback/satisfaction rating. If you read the remarks, and consistently see negative things are being said about a seller, hang onto your money and keep searching.

As far as listing categories: People flub this up all the time, and some of the best bargains are found because someone misclassified an item,(such as listing a burberry trench under 'suits and blazers'.) For that reason, I would recommend leaving the 'style' filter alone once you get into a specific category, such as "Coats and Jackets"

I had been stalking a bit until I realized I can't wear poly linings. Burberry does run small... it might help to try some on in store if you can. Brit runs largest, and then as they go more expensive, they run even smaller, in order of price point if that makes sense. Ask for measurements from the seller to be sure.

Definitely look for words like "authentic" in the title. That way if you get a fake, Paypal can help and get your $ back. Also you can search by EU sizes (30, 40, 42) as sometimes people don't put the US conversion in the title.

Fun search! I sold a mint condition navy burberry last year for about $90 I think. I have seen vintage ones go for anywhere between $75-$200 on the low end. There can be lots of good ones out there.

Try different searches, some just under "Burberry Trench" Also try "Burberrys" Sometimes sellers don't list the color or size in the title. I have 2 vintage ones at home that seem to be pretty consistent with standard US sizes. If you filter by 'used" that can weed out some of the newer ones, I am a little wary if it is too good a price and new that it might be fake.

I've become enamored with the idea of finding a Burberry trench (preferably navy blue) on eBay. New or vintage, it doesn't matter as long as I like it. Has anyone else done this? Any tips?

Also, any tips about Burberry sizing would be helpful. I'm a 10 in jackets.
