I do these types of videos for my work from time to time. If I was more courageous, I would post a link to one of them. :)

Will it be in a studio with a green screen behind you? Do you know what background they will use and do you have a choice? I tend to wear something in black with a flattering neckline because it will suit any background....and it looks professional for my work as an academic. I use my hands quite a bit and I've noticed that my jewellery is quite noticeable in the videos.

I was told that it's better to be quite animated with my voice and body/ hands because it dulls down on camera. It seemed somewhat ott when I was doing it, but they were absolutely correct.

It will be fun!

Thanks! Life suddenly got a little busier so I will have to pop back again later. Thanks for the suggestions, especially for me to view it as a positive. That's good advice. I'm sure the kids would be happy to do a practice video with me, too.

Funny you bring this up as I had to get new corporate photos done for web etc... but we are increasingly doing videos, online presentations etc etc so this is becoming an everyday issue. Adding to others advice is to wear 'bright' clear solid colours that suit... so away from black grey etc. Plains are better so avoid patterns and fuss. Today I did get makeup done at a counter i trust... i needed a few new items so I could justify this since cost was rebated. Anything distracting should also go. Have fun!

I've been told to avoid bright red, as it can look quite distorted on video. What a fun opportunity!

If you can, find out about the setting. Chair color, background color, etc. so that you can pick a color that helps you stand out but doesn't clash.

If you're like me, and talk with your hands, make sure they are nicely groomed.

If you can, have someone ask you a few questions and tape the interview. Even on a cell phone. That way, if you find you have some odd habits you were unaware of, you have time to eliminate them. At least for the interview. :)

Maybe get over the short stick thought and turn it into an adventure?

I am not an expert but I would think a solid colour top in a colour that suits you, not too voluminous, not too fitting. I would keep jewelry to a minimum but I would not hesitate to wear a pendant or earrings that you love.

I had to get my passport photo taken yesterday (which are notoriously awful) and I made sure I did my brows, wore a good lippie and a little emphasis on the eyes. I am not as unhappy with it as I was with my previous one. A few friends have had photos taken for company websites and for realtor signs or business cards etc and they have mostly stuck to that advice.

I think you will look terrific and it could be a lot of fun!

My employer is planning an educational/ promotional video recording to add to our website presence. Somehow I drew the short straw to be in it.
I haven't done anything like this before (and neither has our part of the organisation) so I'd love some tips for looking cool, calm and professional on screen. I did ask about a hair and make up budget, but they thought I was joking!

It will take the format of a 'local' blogger interviewing me and a colleague in an informal setting.

I'm thinking a top in a solid colour , rather than pattern, and making sure I define eyebrows and lips with a little more makeup than usual. We'll be in the tropics, so no need for a jacket or topper .

Any thoughts about do's or don'ts would be really appreciated. I have about a month's notice, so I can shop and practice make-up if needed.
Thanks in advance, and apologies for the post-and-run till morning.
