I am thinking spring/summer for sure. (Maybe if I buy for it the weather will come? LOL) White jeans, sandals are on my radar. I am interested about the fun birki's too Great thoughts for the upcoming season!

I don't do much for spring, because the weather is pretty ick in my book - winter with longer days. The good cheer can be kind of jarring. However, I am looking forward to trying Easter colours with deeper, earthier colours...

Last summer/fall I hunted down navy/ink blue as an alternative to black...pumps, pencil skirt, trousers, 2 dresses, and I've been very happy. Glad to learn you are seeing lots of that colour. It was very hard to find navy shoes last year.

I'm still looking for the perfect white jeans or trousers. Had no luck last year, so will start early this year. Not sure about pastels. Feeling a bit washed out by my blush sweater, though it is very pretty! Maybe some very pale blue boyfriend jeans?

I can't remember what store's site I was on the other day, but it was filled with shorts! Ack! It seems like some retailers are skipping spring this year and heading straight to summer.

As for your I-hope-we-never-see-them-again items, I had to laugh because most of them are on my list too--except for the very low rise jeans, which I like because I have a supershort torso. The mom jeans might surprise you--waists are getting higher and higher! I think Urban Outfitters now has something that they call "uber high rise" pants. Yikes! If I wore those, I probably wouldn't even have to wear a bra because the pant waist would be so high it would be doing double duty.

I'm hoping for variety too...getting tired of black also, especially in shoes. Whatever happened to dark brown? For spring I want to try wearing some citron--I have almost none of it in my closet except for some in an intarsia sweater. I might try salmon too, and some lavender.

It's not too early to think of spring. Buying at the start of the season could lead to less desperation buying because when the temps turn you will have stuff you love to wear.
I think there will still be midis and maxis as well as different lengths of pants.

Oh absolutely, look ahead if you can. But gosh...square toes are coming back? And here I thought I was being a style rebel...I have some navy shoes on order with square toes. Almost everyone in the "what looks dated" thread mentioned them, and I was like...too bad, I like them! Man...but I'm fashion-forward again?? Awww... ;)

But seriously...so glad to hear of the variety you're seeing. Yay!

Here in Chicagoland, the stores look rather worn and forlorn. All the salt and snow in the aisles doesn't help! But, if you look closely, you'll see a lightweight cotton sweater hear, a pair of blue pumps there --- like little hardy crocuses pushing out of the hard earth.

Now, I think you're in SoCal, in which case, Spring is just around the corner. Time to get hopping! In my case? Time for hoping.

P.S. I'm actually looking for a pair of high waisted pleated pants --- more like Kate Hepburn than Elaine in Seinfeld, though.

Hey hey, you've got new pointy-toe shoes but you're not sharing pics? ;-)

I'm still working on my essentials, so no real trends for me this year. Interesting to read others' insights here, though!

Is it time to start thinking of spring yet? I have been doing that since the big purge of shoes, and small purge of jackets. This also led to a sort thru of the rest of the closet.

have't been to malls yet to look, just my close by Marshalls as it is a really good one (all Marshalls are not created equal), and is right by the pet supply where I get most of the food for my dogs, so an there at least once a week. They have lots of spring -summer shoes in, and some other stuff. also reviewed all Angie posts about spring styles and trends, and pinterest.

Have a plan for shoes-wedge or 1 to 2 inch heel sandals and or pumps, white denim jacket, lite color blazer like maybe ponte, and will need some lite colored crop pants, ankle pants or something.

Here is what I saw this morning-6PM has tons of sandals and Birkenstocks, Burkies, other similar styles and brands in loads of colors-really pretty and so practical-take a look-these are on a gotta have list!!!!!

So am wondering-are midi length really going to trend? what about maxi?

I am really getting tired of black everything-shoes, pants, jackets, etc. have not been a big fan of pastels in the past, but after an Angie blog post love the new blue and pink am liking them. Also liking navy,, and after seeing navy shoes at marshalls am thinking it may be a more popular spring color than it has been in the past.

Bought my first pair of pointy toe shoes -love them!

Also seeing a sort of squared off toe, not the old hard square, but sort of a soft rounded square on wedgies and flats.

Best of all I am seeing that there is a lot of variety in everything..pointy, almond, round, etc. shoes, lots of heel heights, all sorts of jeans and pants, from very baggy harem to skinnies and lots in between.

So I think 2014 is going to be a fun fashion year!

Things I feel we will never see again=big shoulder pads, those pleated pants with waist bands and belt loops, very low rider jeans, and more I can't think of now. also those mom jeans-tapered legs, high waist, Have to agree they do not flatter anyone-and do make buts look big and round looking.

But I sure hope to see capris, all kinds of lengths from shorts, bermudas, all places on legs from knees to ankles. whatever you call them there is a place for all lengths, and we all deserve to be able to pick and choose what suits us.
