What a ridiculous idea. What happens if one of you move, gain weight, or ruin the piece in question? What if you have a falling out? Do you get visitation rights? Who takes care of the drycleaning? You'd need a lawyer present for this idea to work.

Since I don't give a hoot about designer labels (though I'm turning into a snob about quality), I wouldn't be the least bit interested. All of the above reasons resonate with me too.

I couldn't do it either. First and most important, none of my friends have a body type similar to mine. I actually don't think I've ever met anyone with a very similar body to mine. I would not risk getting a wardrobe full of expensive clothes that didn't fit me absolutely perfectly. And as others have said, the clothes wouldn't be mine to wear when I want and you run the chance of having your clothes ruined.

That said, I do occasionally share handbags with my mom. As I am a college student, I can't afford the designer bags I want, so this is a better deal for me. : )

Sounds like a lot of work, and high risk. What if someone stains or permantly ruins something? Or what if the dry cleaner loses something?

And there's the "skeever" factor....I couldn't wear shoes that someone else has worn.

I agree - I wouldn't go for this. And would worry about how this would impact my relationship with my friend. Too much hassle and worry.

Doesn't sound like much fun. I'd rather just save up for the item and have fewer things in my closet, but have some really fab things in my closet. I'd be worried that I'd ruin it or someone else would ruin it. Too much stress for me

I wouldn't want to invest in something like this unless it was a best friend who I knew well enough to know her habits. Even then I really like to own my clothing. Maybe I'm greedy.
Has the 'rent a handbag' taken off?

As I just mentioned on another thread, I read the UK version of Glamour on the plane ride home. It had an interesting article talking about a new trend: time-sharing designer clothing.

The concept is this: you find a friend or two who wear the same size as you do and have similar tastes in clothing. You pool your money together and invest in designer clothes, shoes, purses that you could otherwise not afford on your own. Then you work out a rotation schedule, for example, alternate months.

I thought this was quite intriguing idea, although unfortunately I can't think of any friends nearby enough that are my size who might want to do this. My VFBF (very fashionable best friend) *might* be interested in time-sharing purses or accessories with me, but she's just so tall ... she can carry off oversized purses and accessories, when I cannot.

What does everyone else think of this idea? Would you do it?
