This has taught me not to cross my legs. :). Back zippers are less likely to snag. I have problems with zipper trim on bags snagging knits.

This happens to me but only with one pair of my boots, and only on the right leg. I was thinking of taking that particular pair to my local cobbler shop to see if they could somehow fix the problem - attaching/extending some sort of backing behind the zipper, maybe.

This happens to me with one pair of boots that I bought and they zip up at the side. The snagging occurs on the leg that I wear the boot on and I have found that by identifying the rough part that snags my tights and filing it (with a nail file) it has helped to reduce the snagging.

This has happened to me, and it is annoying!
Like rizamei, I stick to more sturdy tights.

I have this issue with my current boots--the inside side zips have a bigger pull than on my previous pair, and that seems to make it catch on things more when I cross my legs. I'm thinking of removing the decorative leather ornament on the metal pull for this reason. For me it's only been a problem with my more delicate tights, so I am just sticking to sturdier ones (more opaque, or sweater/fleece) with these boots for now.

Hmm. I've worn tall boots with tights for years and I don't remember ever actually snagging. I think it's because of the way I walk and cross my legs; the zipper pull just doesn't come in contact with my opposite leg. But if it's a consistent thing for you, it might be worth it to focus on back zips!

For what it's worth, I'm more likely to snag tights or hose from rough spots/stitching/glue on the inside or edge of footwear. A quick hard rub with a good nail file has taken care of most of those. I imagine the same thing but with sandpaper (or steel nail file) could take some rough spots off of your zippers. They really shouldn't be catching regularly unless you only wear loose knit sweater tights.

It seems to only be a problem with side-zip boots. maybe I should limit myself to back-zips from now on.

Yes, this happens to me with some boots. Usually it is the ones I use for commuting so I wear a pair of thin socks that just come over the top of the boot. Not sure of a solution for when you need to look more refined than a commuter on her way to work.

It seems whenever I wear a pair of zippered boots with tights I end up snagging my tights -- not in the teeth of the zipper, just on the zipper pull while I'm walking, or when I cross my legs while sitting. Does this happen to anyone else? Does it drive anyone else crazy?

Any clever hacks or solutions, other than only wearing leggings with zip boots, and reserving tights for pull-on/lace-up styles?
