Cookie, you looked gorgeous in your wedding outfit. And so did the bride! I also LOVE that expensive skirt you tried on. Super fun architectural look. Too bad about the price. Smart buys on the skirts and scarves and overall it sounds as if you had a really fab time!

The neckerchief in the pic above my comment picks up the colours of your hair and creates a punchy high contrast!

LOVE the dress you wore to the wedding :)

Your "boring skirts" are easy and affordable additions for your style!

Also think the colour-blocked top deserves a little love.

Thank you, everyone! Jenni—my mother says what HER mother taught her is if someone has already bought the thing and it can’t be returned, then it looks great. Otherwise, feel free to speak your mind. LOL.

The textile art show just opened recently so it should be there a while if anyone will be in NY. It’s really good!

I successfully followed a YouTube tutorial on scarf tying last night at like 1 a.m. and I am SO pleased with myself. (I have zero kinesthetic intelligence and am usually hopeless at following live instructions on anything.) Maybe I’ll really wear them as scarves and not just as belts now.

Great fun. I didn’t comment on the black and pink dress. I was not so keen on it as everyone else. I’m still not that good at saying such to Fabbers when they get nothing but enthusiasm and encouragement from everyone else. Sounds like the people who actually know you knew better?!
I love the outfit for the wedding, that was my fave, and love the bride’s dress.
The Liberty scarf is my favourite.

Oh! Thanks so much for sharing your NY adventures! The Liberty scarf is my favourite! I think the exhibit looks fun, and as a heavy repeater of outfits, could get on board with a uniform.

Perfect dress for the wedding. Bride looks lovely! The scarves are really nice additions. How fun you tried on that architectural skirt. And nice new lounge around skirts, it's neat one of them is reversible. You had a very successful trip!

Very enjoyable report! I think the dress you wore looks fab on you! Great pics from the exhibit too. Interesting about Cure Vintage - I have never been (probably because it is not about clothes!), so I looked them up and they are indeed a charity. Just like the Met Gala I guess - charity does not mean cheap .

Nice skirts, and I love the scarves, especially #5 & #7. I adore the top your partner hates, but I'd remove the sleeves. The dress you wore to the wedding was perfect, and such an impeccable fit. YLF!

Haha fun recap, I like everything that you did bring home, all skirts looks lovely, I'm also a sucker for anything Liberty, I thoroughly enjoyed going to their London store when I was there last fall. Came home with a Liberty packable shopping tote, that's all my budget could afford lol.
Glad to hear that you realized the other designer dress wasn't actually going to work for your real life, I've made that error myself once too often.

That WAS a fun read, I agree! I love to see snaps from a textile or fashion exhibit. I wish I could visit all of them.

#7 scarf is particularly pretty. Such a good deal for real silk. And I like that top on you a lot! I think two tone tops (sleeves a different color) are very flattering.

Well that was a fun read. I really like your 'boring' skirts, particularly the first two. How cool that the second is reversable! The top that your hubs does not like, I would try pull out those colors that look like teal, citron, etc for a piece on the bottom - if you have such. Necklace is a cool find too. Better you did not buy that pink patterned dress, I was one who said you could where it anywhere, which is true, but not if you felt uncomfortable doing so. You did not show us your outfit to the wedding..., or maybe you did in a previous post and I missed it?

Just gonna put all my recent exploits in one post.

- First (#1-4), I thrifted some boring skirts to bum around in. 2-3 are actually the same skirt, which is reversible.

- Then, I went to a fancy tag sale to benefit services for homeless people, where for a total of $25 I acquired three silk scarves that I have not attempted to de-wrinkle before photographing, a very heavy necklace (hematite?), and this top that my partner hates but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Maybe it’s better with the patterned skirt even though it seems like an awful lot going on? Maybe I should try removing the sleeves?? Maybe it was a mistake altogether?
The paisley scarf is Liberty and the loveliest soft silk and I was going to give it to my mother until I remembered she doesn’t like brown (though arguably it’s orange?) but I couldn’t leave it behind. She WILL like the white one, which has a vintage-looking label that says “Alec Brook” and may have been meant as a men’s scarf? At any rate, this Brook fellow seems to have been a table tennis champion who also headed a manufacturer of sports-themed neckties in the UK. Mom is a mean table tennis player herself.

- #11 In NY, I tried on this super cool skirt. Partly to see if I could really comport myself like someone who would consider casually buying a $500 skirt. However, I am not.

- #12 The bride! She was wearing Converse sneakers with that dress, the better to tromp around town.

- #13-17 These cool pinafore/dress things were part of an excellent textile art show at MOMA.

- It truly grieves me to disappoint everyone but I did NOT end up buying the black and pink vintage dress. Despite the enthusiasm here, everyone I showed it to who knows me in real life said they could not see me ever wearing it. Indeed, I could not really imagine a scenario where it would be worn besides, like, Rosh Hashanah at a somewhat snobby synagogue in 1986 (ohhhh … this may throw some light on my mental hangup about this item, coughcoughmovingrightalong). When I went back to try it on again, the sleeves seemed so uncomfortable as well as not really my thing aesthetically. ALAS. (And the other, less spectacular but easier-to-wear dress I’d been considering there was gone.)

- I also visited what must be the most expensive “thrift” shop in the known universe (Cure Thrift in the East Village). I almost bought a book there but decided I was too offended by the whole business.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk! lol
