Thank you Joy, JAileen, Elle, Rachylou for the helpful suggestions! Putting them all in Google Maps for the day...

I didn't think of loungewear and slippers, and I don't know if dd would have either. Now I'll make sure she gets some.

I would try

Goodwill Boutique at West Portal,

Cross Roads (my favorite is on Fillmore in Pacific Heights but they have a bunch of locations), or GoodByes (upscale) on Sacramento in Pacific Heights. None are walking distance but you can easily take a bus to Pacific Heights or the muni metro subway to West Portal Goodwill will probably have the best prices but it's a small store. With thrifting, it's always hit or miss though.

I'll ask DDIL who went to grad school in Berkeley. She was always cold. She will need warm lounge wear and slippers. DDIL loved an electric tea pot so she could make tea in her room.

My daughter is moving to San Francisco next week to go to school. She has no meat on her bones and chills easily, even at home in SoCal. I'm going up with her to shop for warmer clothes, which for her will mean thrift stores.

Any advice from the locals on where to shop? The school is in SoMa, the dorm is near Market and Kearney, and we're not averse to walking.

She is a rock climber, so if I can entice her into a regular retail store, it'll be something geary like REI.
