Hi I can’t really be of help re Trunk Club since I live in NZ, but wanted to welcome you anyway. I read Who’s Who and would love to hear you singing the vintage songs! Have had so much fun going to the odd event with that sort of thing. My 28 year old daughter has just moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to be with her new Vietnamese husband.
I agree with KKards that it would be really hard to get a stranger to fully understand your style, especially if your body has changed over time after having children. Even a stylist that you meet and employ, let alone one on the end of emails? So IDK really...

i have not used TC...mainly because i like the shopping part of fashion....but i would imagine that the only way for this to really work is to have a very good idea of what your style is and a very good idea of how to communicate that to a stranger....which i think could be very very difficult...i would like to think that as you continued to work with the same stylist they would get into your groove
i 2nd Jenava's recommendation --Rent the Runway now has different levels of substitutions, and they have a buy option if you try something and like it...

Thank you Jenava! Generic is a good description for how I've felt about some of the trunks, they didn't feel terribly personalized and sometimes like they were pushing specific inventory. Like I said 'i'm feeling self conscious atm about my upper arms, so not interested in sleeveless work tops', and then the trunk had several sleeveless tops.

So far I've avoided the paying as I have a N. card, def wouldn't do it if I had to pay for the service right now.

I haven't done anything with rental companies only b/c .... i don't really? Felt like I should buy instead of rent for the money? I work from home so I don't need a huge warddrobe but want enough to have fun and not always wear the same things when I do visit the office, and for the rest of my life. Maybe that's a good reason to rent for some things, it's definitely a mental shift for me, thanks for suggesting it.

I have had a similar experience with TC. I would tell them what I was interested in, and what were non-starters and I'd get a trunk that seemed very generic and not at all what I'd asked for. Plus, at some point they've started to charge so even if you don't buy anything you have to pay. That's when I stopped it.

Have you looked at some rental companies? for example, Rent the Runway? I've had friends who have really good luck with that. I did Le Tote when I was pregnant and it worked pretty good for me, although I felt the price was a bit high.

Oh, and WELCOME!

Hi everyone! I'm new here (more info in the Whos Who if you're curious) and I thought I'd make my intro by asking about Trunk Club since there's so many Nordstrom shoppers here. Have you tried it? If you use it what are your suggestions for making it work for you? And what are you asking for in your next TC if you've just finished shopping the NAS :)

For context ordering online is where it's at for me - I live pretty far from any mall, the nearest Nordstrom is 3 hrs away, the nearest legit Macys (not just a shell of a store) 2 hrs away. Additionally I'm most successful (but not always) with petite sizes, for which there's usually a bigger selection online than in store.

I signed up for TC b/c I was basically doing the trunk club myself - placing a large order/sending most of it back in trying to build my warddrobe. I thought maybe TC could do a better job of selecting things than I was. I also thought I'd like a bit of a push out of my comfort zone.

I've gotten some good things, but I'm sort of struggling with getting in the groove with a stylist, I'm on stylist 3 at this point, I think I've had 3 trunks delivered and out and out declined 2 trunks entirely. I'd say my purchases have been 50/50 things I put on my pinterest board vs. things the stylist chooses. And there are things I've purchased b/c of what I received through TC even if I didn't keep the one from TC. For example a key part of my summer wardrobe has been a pair of magenta pants which I *never* would have purchased except I received a pair of pink pants in the TC which were too small but got me to consider the possibilty of non neutral bottoms. All and all it hasn't been a terrible experience but has it's own frustrations and I'd like to see how I could optimize it.

Would love to hear if other folks use the service/how you've made it work for you.
