It looks beautiful. I just love it. I believe that dress styles of a woman are generally varied between classic and casual to contemporary. I am a fashion lover. I always used Iris Atsin clothes.

Too bad about the dress. I generally like Eileen Fisher, but I have the hardest time with their dresses. I have a beautiful long green wool one from about 10-12 years ago that unfortunately is a little too large now ... Yet it's more flattering than many of the overly A-line silhouettes I see from the brand lately. I find the skirts to work better on shorter people these days.

Yes Deb - it's Christmas Eve. We've finished dinner and now my son is entertaining some friends downstairs and hubby is wrapping gifts for tomorrow. So I had a few minutes to pop into YLF.

Sounds like you've had a lovely day. It's nice to have a mix of quiet time and family time isn't it?

Well the dress arrived today and I finally had a chance to try it on. Succinct verdict? Horrendous on me. It was waaaaay too short and the sleeves ridiculously tight. It was such a weird fit for me as EF has been very consistent until this dress. Oh well...back it goes. I think a regular medium as opposed to the petite medium I tried might fit better but I'm not that excited to try another size.

Una - thank you so much for your input and the link! I had forgotten you had this dress - in grey right? I don't mind having to wear a slip with this dress - a slip does not work with tights and the EF drape front dress though due to fabric and fit differences from this swingy-er dress. I'm thrilled to hear that the pleats stay put too. That's a definite bonus. Dry cleaning isn't a big deal. I guess now it comes down to two things: will the size I ordered (my usual EF size in dresses) be correct and will it be at least JFE? Looking forward to finding out!

Shannon, I owned this dress. It was very cute and is in the Garnet Hill catalog every year. The pleat maintenance was a non-issue as they hold well. I don't think it will play well with toppers due to the short, swingy shift shape, but I could be wrong. Its not as malleable as a lighter weight summer fabric. You also will need a slip for it to not stick to tights, as its a grippy wool. Mine finally gave out at a neck seam. With all this in mind, it was a workhorse for me worn solo with winter tights and boots.

Well I've gone ahead and ordered it. You never know until you try, right? And thanks to my seller's return policy there is nothing lost but $8 in shipping should it not work out.

Tolkitty - I'm not worried about the care factor but I, like you, am wondering about the maintenance of the pleats. I'm assuming I'll get a better idea of that once I've got the fabric in my hands.

Thanks for the feedback ladies

I love the look of the dress. My main concern would be cleaning/care: hand wash vs. dry clean, and do pleats like that stay or do they need to be ironed? But if there's a good return policy, seems worth a try!

Joy - that's exactly what I'm thinking. It's dressier than a sweater dress but still has that type of winter coziness to it.

I love the look of that dress and want one too. It reminds me of a soft pleated black skirt that I picked up late season last year. I can wear it with a black sweater for a dress look, which has become my go to winter "dress" for times when a sweater dress is too casual.
At least give it a try.

A black dress is an absolute essential in my wardrobe - I can wear one at least once per week as illustrated by the wearing of my black EF drape front dress during the warmer months.

I have tried that EF dress with tights/leggings for winter and although the look is fine with a topper and not seasonally confused, the fabric of the dress does not play nicely with tights. It sticks like the VC tube skirt fabric does. And it doesn't work with a slip either. This means I do not have a black dress for the cold months to wear with tights and boots. A HUGE wardrobe hole for me has been identified.

So true to my keeping purchase costs reasonable, I've turned once again to my trusty and favorite eBayer to see if she had any winter weight EF black dresses. Lo and behold, she does - this merino wool 3/4 sleeve pretty little number. It is a bit of a pleated design but without the bulk and width of a stiffer pleated fabric. The bodice has quite tight and flat pleats and then on the lower part of the dress, the pleats are wider apart, giving the dress a bit of a swingy and A-line shape.

This is not normally a shape I gravitate towards however I think the dress has enough shape and is short enough that it would still be flattering. And of course I almost always rein in any unwanted width/volume with a topper.

Anyhoo....over to you for your thoughts...YAY worth a try; NAY not a good option for me. Thanks
