Nicole, I was contemplating an ecru belt to go with the cardigan...but I think I've decided to go a different direction.

After trying on the cardigan again and taking a good look at myself, I decided that it's not the best cardigan for me. It catches on my bum (tabletop butt syndrome) and the shoulders don't hang exactly right on me. I've decided to return it, but I will get something else in the same color.

I also wasn't keen on having to belt it every time I wore it. Some of my pants fall below my natural waist and so I would be belting at a point higher than my pants waist which creates a weird bump sometimes. Don't know if anyone else has that problem, but I decided it might limit the number of times I would wear it.

Thanks for you input everyone. I'll let you know what else I come up with

Ana, with the Tartine, I planned on wearing it with the honey glaze corduroy skirt (it's in my closet now, yay!) and with some orange and cream tops. I'll probably also wear it with ice blue. I haven't really sat down to think about it, but that's what pops into my head at the moment I really want a dark eggplant sweater to wear with the honey glaze too.

I think if you're planning on always wearing it belted, then it's nice. Buttoned, it fits me the same way it does you, which is just the style of the cardi. What I like about it is the V Neck. It seems difficult to find V Neck cardis in pretty, bright colors. Have you seen the way the models are wearing it in the J. Crew catalog? That always gives me some ideas.

My store hasn't gotten the Tartine cardi in either, but I can hardly wait! I love the little chiffon ruffles. I've seen the maize color in other items, and it's the prettiest bright, butter shade of yellow. The chocolate color is so pretty too! I think it's a bit lighter and warmer than some other browns. What color combinations are you planning with it?

Thanks everyone. I wasn't intending this to be a boyfriend cardigan, just a little different than the cardigans I currently have. I would never wear it buttoned like that, I was just trying to give a picture of the fit. I probably wouldn't wear it open like that either. I would button the top button which looks a little better. I am also looking for a belt that is more appropriate for the fall.

Given all that, should I keep it or keep looking?

Ana, my store hasn't gotten the Tartine cardigan yet, but I'm planning on purchasing that in chocolate.

Love the color (what a surprise :-). Don't love the length on you. Also the bottom has a tighter knit part (Angie has a technical name for this that I forget) which I think makes the top part of the cardigan look a bit bulgy. It's definitely not too small on you.

I have this same cardigan, Dani! :D

I am planning on strictly wearing mine with a belt, I think. I personally really prefer to wear belts with most of my cardigans, because it makes me feel more polished and defines my waist better. If you are looking for something that is a bit more versatile, J. Crew has the Jackie cardigan in that same color, deep persimmon:

http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../85613.jsp

and also the Tartine cardigan, which has a super cute little chiffon ruffle detail (I want the maize color):

http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../96527.jsp

Colour is killer.

I’m with Amy and Shell. It’s great belted, but not a pukka boyfriend unbuttoned. It’s too short. How do you feel?

buttoned w/o belt: too boxy, needs waist definition.

unbuttoned: looks rather matronly. doesnt give you enough shape.

belted: love it this is definitely a great look for the sweater.

final notes: a slightly longer top underneath would look great. also, you could try buttoning it right under the bust for a beltless option.

love the color on you, by the way

Hmm...I disagree with the others here. If you are going for the boyfriend cardi look, which is what I think is meant in this cut, it looks too short for the current trend. It hits at the hip where I would expect a fitted cardi to hit, (not sure if fitted is the word I am looking for, but the typical cardi (think twinset)) but has the deeper V and the looser arms of the boyfriend cut. What type of look are you going for? If it's this , then the fit isn't achieving your goal.

Dani I don't think it's too small at all. In fact, it might be a bit loose for my taste, but I think that's just the way J Crew cardis are cut. I really love it belted, but it looks great the other two ways as well. I'd give it a 9 belted and 8.5 unbelted.

OK...I feel like I'm always following Ana around at J Crew but I picked up this cardigan and want to get opinions. I may go back and get another color but the persimmon is what I was drawn to first.

I tried on a larger size and it felt too boxy so I ended up with this. Do you guys think I need to get the larger size? What do you think of it on me?

Buttoned:

Belted, but I'll be looking for a different belt:
