Thanks! I've never tried those. I don't even know if they are available here, I don't think I've seen them before.

They look similar to gear. but if your feet are happy. I have chosen P. F. Flyers for my 11wide flat fussy feet.

Thanks Unfrumped! I don't think I'm going to find oxfords that are comfortable enough for whole day walking (and my wide feet) and robust enough to take some rain, puddles and mud. Mary Janes are definitely not warm enough, I'm not looking to replace my sandals. I'm basically searching for a shoe that can replace my old converse in wet weather. This below is what I practically wearing all the time in Norway, adding my rain jacket, changing sweatshirts and going with my boots instead of the sneakers from time to time. But Norway wasn't wet at all.

Thanks Rabbit! The association is there, but not overly so and it's not a bad thing in my mind. You can see my hiking boots in #2. We do have Camper here, but their shoes are often too narrow for my feet. I agree though that they have some great looking stuff!

I do think the color looks a little like work boots, but that might just be a US association with the light tan and dark top Danner (?) type. I don't know how it reads in the UK and Germany. I like high top sneakers, and love the general style of these and usually wear them with my jeans rolled over them or skinny pants or leggings. I think trying these out will let you know how they work with your outfits and hair. And you would have an idea of how similar or different they look to your hiking boots.

I think if you are willing to pay a high price tag there are many super comfortable walking shoes that are also great looking/versatile. I've heard good things about the Spanish brand Camper, but haven't tried them, but many of the shoes look great when I've seen them in person and come in interesting colors: http://www.camper.com/en_US/women/shoes

I think these tend to be too much like the hiking boots. What about an Oxford but a comfortable rubber- soled one, or a sport Mary Jane ? I'm not good at brands. There have been some threads on travel and walking shoes and such.

Thanks Unfrumped. They're normal oiled leather. They would be too warm to wear for summer temperatures here, but if I wear them afterwards it would mostly be in fall and spring. I'm taking sandals on the trip in case it really does get warm. And yes, they definitely need to be comfortable to be considered! I'm a sock wearer myself, I can't go barefoot in closed shoes at all.

ETA

I'm not aiming for stylish with my travel capsule, this will mostly be practical first. But if I get shoes that are too gear like I won't have much need of them afterwards, especially because I do have my hiking boots.

Thanks Marmee! I have some more things planned, mostly new tops. My wardrobe is definitely lacking in that department. Maybe a skirt if I find the perfect one. But nothing that would be as expensive on its own as the shoes.

They do bring to mind the tan work boot, though I know they look different. So for high-top sneakers they are not as summery as a fabric in color--are they suede? Will that be too hot, for usual summer?
I struggle with "real" walking shoes myself--meaning for real walking vacations, sight-seeing--for years I only used athletic shoes or types of Ecco or Clark sorf of comfort-oxfords. I want super comfort, and lace-ups, and socks (hidden or otherwise) ! Not sure what I would do this year or in future if trying to hit a higher style bar.

I think you could rock them, but they look a little workman like to me, and I might worry if that was your only big spring purchase. If I had these, I'd wear them with boyfriends, and perhaps wear them as a contrast to something girlier.

I'm planning to get a pair of comfortable shoes/sneakers I can take as an alternative to my hiking boots to Scotland this summer. I definitely want to get use out of the shoes otherwise too. Gaylene recommended looking at Wolky (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....r-scotland) and I found these high top sneakers on their website. I love the look of them and the color is perfect for bookending. Wolky is supposed to be very comfortable and good quality, but they're also expensive.

What do you think? If I get them that would mean my one big purchase for this spring done, what with all the other things I also need.

If you have high top sneakers, how do you wear them? Do you think these would be practical?
