Joy - what a truly thrilling thought! You can not imagine how many quilts and blankets are on my bed...sheets, cotton thermal, fleece, comforter, three thick dog fleeces, then another folded up quilt, fleece dog throw and I sleep in sweats...so I can not imagine anything better. Fab idea!!

Mo - too funny, melty!! The OED is probably going crazy as we speak!!
Parsley - too funny!!! You were so holding out on me!! So I am "still" waiting for my robe. The size 2 did come back into stock in the marine which is what I ordered since I consider a robe adult swaddling!! But I did just pull the trigger on the blardigan in the midnight ombre. So, assuming it fits (PS how can it not with my love of oversized) we will be twins!! I am just hoping the size of the robe is voluminous (if my XL husband cannot get it on can there be enough material? We must, after all, avoid drafts at all costs!!) I definitely think you will need to duplicate for your daughter!! PS OMG you had to say blanket so I had to click on the link. Parlsey, I think we may be going down the dark side of blankie-dom together!! ;-)

If I could afford it, I would buy two of those blankets and use them as sheets for winter. I've done that with the much more inexpensive fleece blankets from Kohls and they feel so warm and comfy. These would be a very lux version.
To answer your question, it looks like a great lounging piece.

IK - that is a very interesting point and I am pondering it. I think, in my personal reference frame, cardigan pertains to the third finish piece (a la Imogen) that can be but is not always dressy. Wool, silk, cotton. I do have a long sweatshirt zip hoodie - it must be 36" in length and, as you say, it could be called a cardigan. But in my mind this is gear and remains a long sweatshirt hoodie. So I totally see and agree with your point, but in sorting my closet it seems I am a splitter, rather than a lumper, for the sake of clarity and utility. If that makes sense. But I am with you in that we do not need a new moniker for every piece of clothing!! But you really gave me pause, in a good way, and made me contemplate how I do use labels, in my mind, to denote use and construction. Thanks so much for chiming in. Very interesting thoughts and discussion!!
Vipanchi - I think that is just how this is meant to be constructed, controlled volume. I think it will depend on sizing and body type to see if the fit is flattering. A number of reviews did mention the sleeves are snug on the smaller size but I agree that would make the silhouette more flattering.

Gryffin, I'm been tied up with Christmas preparations and just saw this post. I have a guilty secret. When I bought my robe that I adore so much, I also bought that exact same cardigan, ostensibly for one of my daughters. It sat in a Nordie's gift box for about a week, until I decided that I had to keep it for myself! It is the more "dressed up" version of the robe: perfect for days like today when I'm chilling out at home and wrapping presents. I'm wearing it over yoga pants and a tee, and figure I can answer the door in it if need be, while still wearing comfy loungewear. I will have to get another one for my daughter...

Ooh, and did you know that they make blankets out of the same fabric? I think I NEED one. :-)
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ba.....et/2882503

I would totally wear it if it hit mid thigh and had bodycon sleeves. Like others have said - if everything else fit, and the flowiness was limited - it would work great!

Gryffin, I'm not sure why you associate hand-washing with the word cardigan. Cardigans are sweaters that open all the way in front. Technically, zip hoodies are cardigans!

There is nothing wrong with calling these sweater coats or sweater jackets. Just please, no swoats or swackets. Not everything has to be elided!

Shevia - they look look so snug for this time of year!! Nothing wrong with a little discretion between a girl and her blankie!!
Alex - so right. Sometimes huge is too huge. It's all in the fit and construction. Excellent point!
IK- I can see where this type of verbal construct could be offensive to you. We are innundated with TomKat's, Brangelina's not to mention jeggings and swackets. Fast food sound bites and sometimes demeaning terminology that is running rampant in the media. I don't think this was an official term but was created by a blogger describing her purchase. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/209910032605897309/ I also don't usually like these constructs but in this case I found it very helpful. Cardigan to me implies a fabric I'm probably going to have to hand washed or dry clean - not what I was looking for. Serape is probably closest to the idea but this is fitted, more feminine, more washable. Robe cardigan/blanket cardigan helped clarify the role, the type of material, the warmth and softness and the washabliity in my mind. FWIW, that helped me bypass the verbiage and focus on the concept, which I find intriguing.
Scarlet - yes, again to fit and proportions. Excellent point!

Florence- I can't think of anything better than the Skinnies/boots/cardi combo either...okay maybe leggings since it's easier to crawl back into bed.....;-)
Una- just when I thought it couldn't get better than a blardigan.....blardigown!! Good one!! I see real potential....Giving adult swaddling new meaning!!
Rae - I thought this one was really pretty too with the ombré and draping!
Aubergine - I am thinking everyone may need a portable blankie! I have to check but I think this comes in purple!! Just a thought!
Suz- yup Una was totally brilliant on this! If the blardigan was actually here I would have been snorting chenille!
Ceit- I never knew these existed. You are clearly on the cutting blankie edge!
Mo - totally agree. It had me at ombré. Usually I am into black, black and more black. But somehow not with this.
CC - wow. You are making me want to visit my Nordies basket and cave ASAP. Are blardigans like the Borg? Is resistance truly futile?

OMG, howling at Una's comment. I love this but would have her exact same problem!

The "blardigan" may be my perfect winter garment! I love things like that more than anyone as short and as curvy as I am has any business doing. And that one looks light enough that it would be pretty easy to wear.

I love them in general, and I also love that one in particular! If proportions and fit and the outfit is good, then feeling like you're wrapped in a blankie is a nice bonus.

A thousand times YAY! I buy up these things every chance I get. As someone still not sick of the skinnies+boots look, I find nothing cozier than a long top, skinnies, and a blardigan.

So Parsley turned me on to Barefoot Dreams Cozy Chic robe (which ps is still in transit). So to console myself I was browsing Nordies and I hit upon the Barefoot Dreams Chic lite wrap. As I scanned through the 45 pages of ecstatic reviews, I came upon the term, coined by a blogger, "the Blardigan." Translation: blanket/cardigan. Well I, who run cold, can not imagine anything better than a portable blankie. I am having visions of Simon in the Peanut's cartoons. So this got me thinking is this warm stylish fun or not? Thoughts? Yea or Nay on the blardigan?
