They were not successful for me in spite of their higher price tag. They bagged out in no time, and the waist area was sloppy almost from the start. I thought they were a waste of money. But, that was one pair so who knows, other styles might have been better.

I have three pairs: white Barbara bootcut, a dark wash Barbara bootcut, and a dark wash ankle jean that may be the Alisha. All are a size down from my usual pant size. I give them mixed reviews.
The Barbara seems a high rise, but not the highest, and they're pretty comfortable on me. I don't notice any binding or girdle feeling in these.

I really like the white Barbara bootcuts; for a white jean, they are not see-through, they are fitted, but not too tight, and the length was good without hemming. They do stretch out a bit while wearing, but for white, I'm okay with the give, and I wash them more frequently (every second wear) than I do other jeans.

The ankle jeans are a little higher rise than the Barbara cut, I think, and not as comfortable on me, as they are tight in the waist. Maybe I should have got my regular pant size in them, although I do like the fit through the hips and thighs. I just wear them with tops out rather than tucked in. But I do wear them quite a bit, because I think they are a little dressier looking than some others I have. I like to wear them tucked into boots, too, because there is no bunching at the ankles.

The Barbara bootcuts in a dark wash are my least favorites. I wish I hadn't gotten them, because I feel frumpy in them. They do fit like the white ones, so I guess the little bit of give that I appreciate in white is not something I want in my dark wash jeans. I think they probably look okay, just not great. I feel a lot
more stylish in my Paige or Fidelity jeans.

This is interesting because mine don't constrict me at all! The Macys in-house jeans, Style & Co., I find to bind a bit more. Waistlines/waistbands often gap on me, so the only time a waistband digs into my waist is never unless it is vintage wear that sits at the true waist. I think I have a short rise, so my waist probably indents below any waistband.
I have tried them but found them constricting but I don't like shapewear and tight items. They also create a muffin top for me. I think it depends on where these hit - I am 5'4" and neither the petites or regular seem to hit at the right spot.

I haven't tried every cut they have but I actually find them a bit binding and they kind of emphasize my muffin top - like Thistle said, where the panels end my natural bulges start! They are on deep discount at the Bay in Canada right now ($80 off).

I tried numerous pairs of them in lots of styles during my Great Jean Search. I returned them all. I am a pear, and I still have my mama pooch (does that ever go away?!?) the NYDJ have some built in spanx technology that was awful on me. It smoothed my tummy and gave we weird lumps and bumps on the edges of the "control" panel.

Oh CocoLion! I always get a stomach ache if anything is too tight or digs in my stomach. I thought I was a weirdo that way! Thanks for telling me that.

But odd...that's my usual problem with lower rises. I thought the higher rise would be better...but I guess not if its tight. These felt so stretchy, but I only had them on a few minutes. I'm not ready to buy, but that is something to think about.

Yes, I think it really varies by style and so on.

I had a pair of NYDJ skinnies and they bagged out on me ridiculously. I may not have bought the right size because this was just after weight loss....I probably didn't know what was right. (Especially since, as I mentioned, I hadn't been paying attention to fashion for decades.)

They were disappointing to me in fit but the quality was great, otherwise.

The general rule is to size down at least one or two sizes; read the reviews. Also, some of the models are rather short and super high-waisted, at least in Petites, so they won't be PPL and will look like mom jeans, and at least from the photos, some look frumpy. I would never pay full price for this brand. I have seen them go on sale at Nordstrom, Macys, and Zappos. You could probably find sales on Amazon as well.

I love my leopard print straight leg NYDJs and Andy NYDJ skirt which I am wearing now. The Emma cut skirt doesn't fit me, so I will be looking elsewhere for a white denim/twill skirt, maybe Eddie Bauer or Talbots.

The basic rule around town on this brand is to wear them for awhile before you cut the tags as the bag-out on a particular make and model may prove to be unacceptable. My jeans are fine BTW.
I had a pair of straight leg NYDJ and liked the high waist but found they hurt my stomach. You have to be OK with the girdling, I may have too many IBS symptoms. I got them on the sale rack at Ross years ago, maybe they were just an uncomfortable pair, hence Ross.

They work if you have a tummy! I wear NYDJ jeans... some are good, some not-so-good. Depends on the amount of spandex they have in them. Less spandex = better, as they don't stretch out as much. They fit me well and I like that they're high waisted... works to girdle my tummy.

I tried some on today in the Classic Bootcut style and liked them okay. Didn't love them so I didn't buy.

That was the only style the store had but I see that in bootcut there is also Sarah, Barbara and Michele. The website didn't say what the difference was between these four If they are all bootcut.

Does anyone know, or have thoughts on this brand?
