Jules is so perceptive and smart.

I love your pinboard, Anna.

What I see there (gasp!) is a huge amount of practicality! Most of those outfits are supremely wearable even as commuting outfits. Yet they are interesting and unusual enough to stand out.

Well for me it has been 5 years. Not to scare you, in fact it's been fun. Just wish I found YLF earlier in the process.

That time period was to accommodate a lifestyle change and build a wardrobe that works for me rather than having a closet full of clothes and the proverbial nothing to wear. I am happy to say I am at the point now where I buy to upgrade (better quality or replace dated item) and add a few pieces per season to refresh the closet classics I've accumulated. The process is easier and I am under no pressure to buy like I used to when a function was coming up and I was in a panic. Now if I love a trend and it works with my closet it's in, otherwise so easy to pass it by.

Funnily enough I reverted to my style I had when younger. Luckily it works for my age now with a few tweaks.

Anna, that is rough, have management brought in any additional cover yet?

With regards to your pinterest board, what I notice is you appear to pin and possibly build outfits around your seasons key buys. In your pinterest board this would be the distressed rolled boyfriend jeans, the leather leggings (hello Elizabeth and James NAS buy), the camo trousers etc. Perhaps your style will click into place once you identify your star items for the forthcoming season?

What a great pinboard, Anna. I picked up this leather vest on sale but haven't worn it for lack of ideas - some good ones on your board.

I see your style shifting too, but not exactly in the structural way of interesting shoes, topper, done. It may be that all your pieces are so interesting and cool. That is, I don't see you having anything generic that you dress up with a topper and shoes around the edges. Or to put it another way, simplifying the way you put your outfits together may not produce a simple look.

Although, I do feel your latest outfits have been less ornate (?) in effect. Actually what I feel is you've gone from "Russian ballroom at night with a million candles" to "up the whole night at Scandinavian midsommer."

I really love it. But I don't know what you have in mind. If you want to take it further, how much further, etc. Anyways to actually give my answer to the question: I'd give myself a good year to take a style change to completion. Maybe two even.

I think you do have a style shift going on Anna, a softening of your look but I believe the jacket and shoes epiphany reflects a change of emphasis rather than a change of preference but I could be mistaken (heck, I often am).

Your new style will take some time to flesh out, given your time, budget and availability constraints.

I wonder do your pins to your pinterest board highlight your new direction?

I'm with others, I don't think there is a timeframe here. I do think it is easier and faster to shirt quicker when one purchases a lot at one time, but that's not always feasible on the wallet.

I also agree with Shevia! It never ends.
This is an interesting topic.
I'm on a shift too, I've been on YLF for a while now and I've learned a lot.
I'm learning that I love to try new things but I always go back to some few good basics in solid color like black and white, love "uniforms", love minimal pieces, now I'm thinking of constructing a autumn capsule around a few good basics: jackets, button down shirts, skinny black jeans, pointy booties.
I'm over with floral dresses.
I've been collecting some inspirations like the one bellow

I agree with Shevia. I'm having a bit of a shift too -- fewer complicated pieces, more structure in bags, fewer accessories, etc. But I am not thinking there will ever be a finish date -- it's ongoing. Some of it is due to outside influence (i.e., the trends) but a lot of it is my internal comfort zone too. I'm now in a place where I seem to be getting choosier about colors. The particular shade of burgundy I chose for an item last year doesn't seem to be the shade I would like now. How weird is that?

I don't think there are really any "shoulds" about it, Anna. You can let it happen organically. I think it does happen organically, whether we're conscious of it or not. Like the way you moved gradually away from mostly black and very high heels. Well, I know the heels change was forced for a time, and that was hard at first, but the switching away from black wasn't hard for you (or didn't seem hard). It just happened. And with the shift from dominant black came other changes, too.

I've been going through a style shift since I got a new job last November, and I basically spent last winter looking like someone who has no fashion sense whatsoever. Slowly getting some items, and mainly I feel best in skinny (but comfy) jeans and cute tops, but I am having a hard time finding tops that: have 3/4 length sleeve to cover my tatttoos, and are also long, so cover the awkward waitlines of the skinny jeans.
I don't think there is a specific time frame for change: it is constant is all aspects of life, personal style included! For me its a neverending evolution...

I don't know the answer. I had been feeling like I should have really nailed down some "style" issues by now so everything would fall into place and be spit-spot but I'm still a bit hither and yon, so trying to just relax about it. If part of your shift is aimed at specific occasions (non-scrub time) I can relate to that, in the sense that I find at times I am be too busy to actually deploy outfit x or y for smart casual or dressy or whatever, or for whether some work items can crossover, and so hadn't had a chance to test fully whether some outfits or capsules are really working the way I imagined.

I'm having a style shift, too, but I'm not sure it's time dependent. More of a continuing gradual flow away from one thing and toward another. Do you have a sense of needing to 'decide' on the new style for fall or something along that line?
One thing that moderates the change for me is my buying rates - only a couple items a month average. Can't get too carried away with any one infatuation that way
