Ladies thanks for all of your responses. They are cognac leather. The leather is very nice but those wrinkles/ruching are giving enough pause and there is stitching inside where the wrinkles are. I had not noticed that previously and I am not a fan of it. Thanks again - very helpful for an indecisive person such as myself to have fashion peeps weigh in. I am going to return these ones and continue my search.

I'd call it ruching, personally, not wrinkles (must be my inner marketer), but whatever you call it I'm not a big fan.

Like Aziraphale pointed out, it can look a bit "trying-too-hard" -- on me at least! I'm sure there are people out there who'd rock those just fine, but on me they'd look silly.

TBH though I'm kind of a leather purist -- I don't really want any pre-distressing whatsoever. I'm a pretty efficient distress-er of footwear once I get it out of the box. ;)

This silhouette is all over the place right now, so I'm sure you can find a similar version sans stitched-in wrinkles.

I am not a huge fan of faux wrinkles (or magneta) either. But I do have a pair of Reiker booties with faux wrinkles that are extremely comfortable so I wear them. I would not buy boots like that again. I have lots of RATE and flower girl in me but I prefer to do the wrinkling myself (and there is lots of that).

I have some and yet I don't really like them. One of those things where they can be just the ticket tho I'm not crazy about it.

Not a fan, maybe 'cause the wrinkles are faux and too symmetrical, like whoever designed them didn't even try for a worn look.

I have a strong poison eye for deliberate, stitched-in wrinkles such as these, but it's an entirely personal aversion that has no rational basis at all, just like my aversion to the colour magenta. For me, deliberate wrinkles seem like the designer was trying really hard to make the boot look "cool", and succeed only in making it look, er...desperate? That's the best way I can explain it. Like I said, it's not exactly rational. ;-)

If boots naturally develop creases after wear, however, that's entirely different.

Ah, intentional, not international. Must read more slowly :-)

If they fit well and you love them, I'd say go for it. If you're hesitating, maybe the wrinkles aren't quite your cup of tea. I don't do wrinkles, but I also don't have a boho bone in my body.

Wrinkles like that bother me for a reason I can't quite put my finger on. I love highly distressed leather, buckles, etc. so it isn't about needing for things to be sleek. I'm hoping someone else can explain it ...

I had a pair of grey/brown Paul Green booties like that. I bought them at a consignment store and thought they were a great deal, but I've never worn them - not even once. (They are now in a box to be given away.) Like Eliza, they just didn't work with my style. It wasn't just the intentional creases - it was also the heel, which seemed a bit "western" to me. Can you see the ankle boots you posted working with your wardrobe?

To my eye, these boots have a vibe somewhere in the steampunk/boho genres. If that works well with your wardrobe, they will be easy to incorporate and are a good neutral. Years ago, I had a pair of Reiker booties like this. That brand fits me well and I liked them, but the style didn't jive with my wardrobe. (I have had comfort determine shoe decisions more than once...)
