And your insights are quite helpful! I can't imagine being so happy with such a small capsule - I spent two semesters living out of a backpack while studying abroad in college, each with a very different wardrobe, and both times I was sick of most of my clothes at the end of the 3.5 months! At the beginning of the summer, I knew that I wanted an assortment of summer dresses. I would have described what I wanted as lightweight cotton dresses that hit around the knee. In that description, I had included knit dresses- which I have come to realize are not what works best for me, and print dresses, which I have come to realize are not what I actually wanted. The dresses that I have ended up with- shirt dresses, utilitarian dresses, and jumper styles; are not what would have come to my mind when I described what I wanted at the beginning of the season. These dresses are just as lightweight and comfortable as other styles of dresses, but because of the closer cut of the skirt they do not billow up in gusts of wind (important in a windy environment). I also have realized that the solid neutral colors of my dresses will allow me to accessorize them in various ways and do lots of layering through the transitional seasons. These less feminine, more severe styles also jive better with my not so great mental attitude in the very hottest of weather. I did not realize that these factors affected how my wardrobe worked for me, but the proof is in the pudding (so to speak). I look forward to putting these dresses on every day, and I am already looking forward to layering then when the weather cools off. I can see myself pulling them out next summer (provided they still fit), and looking forward to wearing them again each day. I think that for me, 5 is a good round number for basic items. It's enough to get me through the week days without repeating, but not so many that it stuffs my closet. </p>
