The child is "only" sick, albeit seriously. She had not been feeling well, but they didn't think it was serious. Today she had been resting and got up to get some water. She fell down the stairs, and when they ran to help her she was blue, so they think the respiratory issues caused the fall and not vice versa. They called EMTs, and did rescue breathing. The EMTs&nbsp;put her on oxygen and took her directly to the Children's Hospital.</p> <p>She is now on IV antibiotics and is stable, and they think that if she responds well to the medication she ought to be able to go home tomorrow.&nbsp;</p> <p>I am SO relieved. DS was so worried that he cried when he found out she was going to be okay (and promptly went into the bathroom so he could deny that he was crying). Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers, everyone. Apparently that child's younger sister is in the hospital and wasn't breathing.&nbsp;</p> <p>No one yet knows what happened or how or what the prognosis is. It must be serious, as the child is in a hospital in the larger city 45 minutes away and not in the smaller hospital 10 minutes away. But we don't know whether the child was taken directly there or transferred from the smaller hospital.</p> <p>Regardless, it goes without saying that I am VERY worried. My DS just looks wrecked - pale, staring into space, not eating. He wanted reassurance that the child would be okay, and said, "People recover from that, right? She'll be okay?" Sadly, I had to answer him that at this point we just don't know. It all depends on what happened and how long she was without oxygen.</p> <p>Anyway, if you have a spare good thought or prayer (whichever way you lean) to send toward this little girl, it would be much appreciated. The family has had some difficult times recently, and this is about the worst thing that could happen to anyone. I am hoping for everyone's sake that the child will recover (I sheepishly admit that I am hoping for the child's sake, the family's sake, my DS's friend's sake and - completely selfishly - for DS's sake, too).</p> <p> </p>
