I also found the Brulees to be a little too narrow in the foot. I had not even considered getting them stretched!! I ended up with the Tequesta in pewter instead which is a thong sandal and doesn't have the strap that hits on the hurty spot.

For anyone still looking for Clarks sandals, the store was running some pretty good sales - most of the sandals were marked down (Brulees, Gelatos & Longmeadow were $59.99 if I recall correctly) and at least as of last week they had a buy one get the second 25% off sale. This was the actual B&M Clarks store (online prices were much higher on their site).

Thank you, Angie. I'm happy to say that after wearing them for a bit, they stretched out enough to be very comfortable, so they're keepers for me. I will keep the shoe stretching in mind for the future, though.

Stretching shoes is a way of life for many of my clients, Cindy. Read this post AND the comments. It’s helpful:

Cindy594 - I'll also post on the sandals that did work with my bunions: the Indigo by Clarks Gelatos (originally posted by Maya). You could try them as well.

Cindy594 - have you ever had shoes stretched? I have serious bunions (I had the same problem with the Brulees as you did). I had some Oxfords stretched by the cobbler, and now they are great!

Thanks, San. And yes, garmenta, I've only ever found one or two pair of ballet flats that work - they've have to be very soft and stretchy around that area.

Those sandals are very cute, though I sometimes have issues with thongs as well! My feet are so fussy. I will have to look for them or a similar style and try them out.

Sorry to hear about your sore feet! In my experience (arthritic toe joint) anything that sits on the sore spot is a problem. I haven't had much luck with stretching a strap that rubs the bad spot. If you have pain in your big toe joint, ballet flats are going to be painful--they're cut to sit on the sorest spot!

What does work (in my experience) is anything that exposes the joint (think of a thong shape, or a t-strap, or something that's cut to expose the joint) and anything that comes up high enough on the foot to gently cover the joint.

I have this sandal from Old Navy (last season, a bit hard to find now) and it's great because it avoids the bad spot altogether.
http://www.kaboodle.com/review.....ap-sandals

I also have these Simply Vera sandals (again, last season, a bit hard to find) and they are good too.
http://www.thisnext.com/item/3.....-Vera-Wang

Even if you can't find the specifics, that might give you ideas.

Oh what a shame Cindy. I hope some others with the same issues will read this and have some advice for you on sandals that work for them.

Well, the pewter brulees arrived, and I'm afraid that they may not work for me. The toe area is a bit narrow, and one of the straps hits right across the bunion on my right foot - not comfortable. I'm going to wear them around the house a bit and see if they stretch out at all. If not, I'm going to be disappointed, as they are really cute.

This is the same reason that I can't wear most ballet flats. I guess it's time to look at having that surgery, but I never can seem to find a "good" time to do it. When I had it on my other foot, it was quite a long recovery period.
