Thanks, Greg, for being such a good sport about all our complaints. I guess the location that gives me the most hassle is the centred placement at the bottom of an open thread, just above the comment area. It is so easy to mouse over the ad if I'm scrolling up to see a previous comment while I'm typing my comment. I use the three column view on my desk computer and am slowly training myself to move more carefully in the open space you've created between the top ad on the middle column and the bottom ad in the far right column when I'm moving to the Off Topic button.

Is it just my imagination, or do the ads behave themselves by not starting immediately after a complaint--at least for a few days? That seems to be the case on my computer. Today the delay in the Harley Davidson ad works, while a few days ago there was no delay before the ad started to play. Do you have to continually slap their hands to make the advertisers mind their manners?

And, just another question, why are the advertisers making it so difficult to shut off the ads once they get started? I could live with accidently setting off the ad if there was some way to get it to stop playing once it got started. That, actually, is what makes the sound ads so annoying and why I want to boycott their products.

Gaylene, could you say more about where this is a problem? That will help me to lessen the impact of the ads as I make tweaks in the layout and ad positions.

Things like... The pages where this is a problem, which ads are most problematic, and the whether you are in wide or narrow mode.

Greg, let me start by saying how much I love the new design. It's a an absolute pleasure to use, except for those &^%$# sound advertisements. And, with the new design, I'm finding it almost impossible to move anywhere on a page without inadvertently triggering one of those idiotic things. Occasionally they even bump me out of YLF to another website in addition to their annoying videos and sound. My list of boycotted products is growing by the day.

I love the content on YLF and I'm starting to agree with Zap that an ad-free paid option would be something I'd seriously consider if it was available.
