Angie, that advice sounds great! I don't usually take things off inside since it seems that I'm always cold! I may use the coat now, but it would probably only be indoors. I think 90 degree days are becoming the norm from here on out.

Maybe I will keep an eye on it. The citronella cardigan is already on sale! If this one goes on sale, and I have the extra cash, then I guess it was meant to be.

Thanks for the advice, and I will definitely be looking for a sweater coat come Autumn.

I hear you, Ana. It sounds like you want one cover-up. So it's a choice between a lightweight trench or a sweater coat perhaps?

Do you plan on taking this off inside? Because if you’re not, then the sweater coat is a better idea. Trenches usually come off.

Are you planning to use this item now? Because if you’re not, I’d wait till the Autumn collections are in store. Light weight Spring cardigans are great for the air-conditioning. How does that plan sound Ana?

Hmm...I can see your point, Angie. I do have a beautiful winter coat that I love wearing. The only problem is since moving to Austin, I've worn it exactly 5 times and I've lived here over 2 years. I miss my Idaho weather. Winters are so mild here a lot of days all I need is a sweater and a scarf. I'm searching for some practical Fall to Spring layering pieces because if I have separate Fall/Spring wardrobes, each would get only about 2 months wear. It seems like such a waste. I have 2 blazers that I wear in Autumn, but they really are strictly Fall season appropriate--blue velvet, and orange tweed. I love them though, so I try to wear the heck out of them during that 2 month window when it's cool enough.

Any ideas for Fall to Spring (spanning about November to February/March) layering pieces that would be stylish and appropriate to wear during that whole time period?

Thank you!

Hmmmm. This is definitely a sweater coat as opposed to a jacket. It's a personal thing. I prefer the structure of a jacket and coat (woven), but if you prefer the softness of a knit, then this is your answer. It’s a more casual option, which is great if that’s your lifestyle. Tit for tat.

I just found this sweater jacket which is exactly like the citronella jacket except it's solid navy (my "black") instead of striped:

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/p.....=cat301172

I like the more refined knit and structure that I've seen in "Spring" sweater jackets this season. This one might also be good here in our mild winters. Most of the year here if it's chilly, a sweater jacket will do the job vs. a winter coat. What do you think? Good investment?

Thank you!

I was just going to suggest that you wait for Autumn, if you want a longer length. Perhaps you’ll wear skinnies with it too!

That makes sense. Thanks for the feeback. I love sweater jackets that are longer and it's hard to find ones that are structured and don't look like robes. I think I will pass on this one and I will keep my eye out for something that is similar but in a solid color. Maybe I will see more of them this fall.

Exactly, Ana. The right horizontal stripe can work on everybody. But these stripes are very broad and it's a long garment. My eye is drawn sideways instead of up and down.

I don't necessarily mean it as a height issue, more of total general proportion of one's body ( in relation to that vertical dimension thing Shiny mentioned on the other thread) and how that relates to stripe placement and where on your body they hit. I am sorry if I'm being vague, when I try striped items on I can tell if they work or not but not what make some work and the others not, so it's tough for me to generalize.

Hmm...I hadn't thought about height being an issue before, but I see what you mean. It could overwhelm me, is that what you're saying? My legs definitely wouldn't stick out the bottom as far as they do on the model. I can definitely see what you're saying.

Ana, I like that jacket a lot and I don't think it would restrict you in the terms of colors, I think it would go well with pretty much every color you mentioned.
As for stripes, i guess you would have to try it and see how it looks. sometimes they work and sometime they don't , but I can never tell without trying.

Love the colours and silhouette, but the stripes are tricky. I say you need height and lots of it to pull this one off. A little like a Spring bumble bee.

Hi everyone! I was wondering your opinion on this sweater jacket from J. Crew. The colors and length really appeal to me. I love it, but I've never been a big fan of horizontal stripes because of all that talk that they make you look bigger than you are, etc, but the yellow and white really appeal to me. They look very clean.

If I did get it, would I be fairly restricted in what I could wear underneath it or do you think it's the sort of jacket that could go over lots of outfits? I mostly wear solids--lots of navy and brighter solid colors like green, bright poppy, yellow, red, coral, etc.

Thank you!
