This is a great milestone, speaking from the vantage point of an 82 year old. My best advice to you: take care of your body and your mind. My late 40s and 50s were the funnest fashion era in my life. I so appreciate you all especially sharing your experiences with milestone birthdays - the good, bad and ugly of them! Definitely the whole "kids becoming adults" thing is a massive transition ... my role has changed so much and I'm still figuring it out. That said, what an absolute JOY to have a friendship with these kids now that they are older - learning about what they believe and how they are defining their own goals and meaning and values. It's inspiring, and I'm so proud of them. Changing appearance is another one that's harder than I want it to be ... I don't care about a few smile lines, but the crepey skin on my arms and legs took me by surprise. Sigh! Working on appreciating all the ways my body supports me through life but it's hard to do it all the time! But now that I'm more than a decade on, I'd give a lot to do that birthday, and the whole decade, again. It is a tumultuous period, for sure, but I enjoyed most of the family milestones and adventures. The downside was that I realized the adage "Little kids, little problems. Big kids, big problems" was on point. How exciting to celebrate in New York! I'm glad you love it there, and will return. It's one of my favorite places of all. You look beautiful at 50 and -- more importantly -- are beautiful, inside as well as out. You've offered so much to this community over the years and it has been a real joy to see your style develop as you've dealt with life's vicissitudes -- aging parents, teens, the deaths of loved ones, job changes.  I'm way ahead of you on the years scale -- in fact, I joined YLF when I was around your age...but I will say, aging is ocmplicated, absolutely, and seeing your children grow up and move away is a big change (not that mine has moved away, but I did go through this with my step-kids, first) and and and...life is richer for all that.  I'm SO glad you and your family celebrated together in NYC! It is such a fun city and so worth the visit. One thing I miss about being back east is our family trips to New York. I'm glad you had a great time and plan to go back.
