I would wear it, but only with those boots, and only with jeans already designed with the hi-lo. This is too risky for DIY.

Ha, this thread is hilarious.

I like this, but I doubt I'll try it because I suspect it will only work with significantly high heeled boots, which I don't wear. And can you imagine the PPL issues? You'd have to worry about PPL for both the front and the back! I imagine you'd have to choose a jeans/boot combo and then stick to it forever.

I think it could be faffy, I can picture the front hem catching in the top of the boot every time I sit down and the catch/ straighten merry go round would drive me utterly bananas.

This thread is hilarious! My own two cents is that if the skirts and dresses can do it, and the tops half tucked in can do it, then why in the world can't the jeans do it too? It sort of seems like the next logical step in the process....

You guys, this is funnier than the butt vest thread! I am on vacation, huddled in the boat waiting out a rainstorm, and this is my giggle for the day.

And I won't pass judgment on the look just yet. I remember proclaiming back in the late 60s that I would never be caught dead in bell-bottoms, then we wore nothing but for a decade. Or more recently, walking through the mall with my daughter, laughing at the ridiculous floral jeans., and then leaving with a pair (but they were ALL BLUE, that was different).

@nebraskim and vildy, Thank you SOOOOO much for that honor. I accept it on behalf of our wonderful, little town. This may make the Facebook page of our little police department. Right after, " baby turkeys reunited with mom. Please give them some peace and stay off of Mendell Road for a few days. " LOL
@ Dashielle, hahahahaha. I would imagine that one upside of platforms and donkeys would be that it is easier to get ON the donkey. : )

@AG and Diane, I had not thought of that. How true, I used to have all my pants for work and my jeans hemmed that way. I suppose that it was more subtle. The funny thing is that I can totally see you,
Una, and Ana, wearing this type of thing. And I would probably LOVE it on you guys. Una, we have "known" each other for while. So I just knew that I could comment and not offend you !!!! XXXXXXX This is just a bit too obvious and geometrical for me. But it took me 4 years to like skinnies and waterfall cardigans. So keep that in mind. ; )

HAHA! No hemming and hawing with this group - I knew you'd get a rise out of it. And Isabel, I love your suggestion of wearing this look with mules. Get it - mules?

Bad puns aside, I see why some of you, maybe even LisaP, have such a strong reaction. I actually love it because to me, it solves the whole 'straight legs with ankle boots" issue and allows me to show my prized footwear. I mean, skinnies go under or bunch, bootcuts and flares go over, boyfriends roll - but this is why I don't wear straight leg jeans.

Also, don't tailors often hem for heels at an angle, so the front of the leg is higher than the back? This just seems like a pronounced version of that. It's like a half-tuck for ankle boots!

Gaylene, any pictures of the original 70s look? I don't remember that but I wasn't quite as in touch with fashion then.

Hmm, I'm on the fence about this idea. I don't actually like the very stepped look and the undone hems on the photo....but the sewist in me can think of a way of designing something more intentional for a boot showcasing look.

Isabel, your comment: "Though after living in a very small rural farming community for 20 years
it could be that my idea of "edge" is riding a donkey in pointed flats.
I cannot imagine going to our little general store in these. They
would think the hem got caught in the tractor. They would wonder how
the boots survived." THIS is just about the most hilarious thing I've read in weeks. I am dying here. You win the Internets today.

I simply cannot continue to lurk and let lisa face this battle alone. It would be cowardly on my part. . That is me being a chicken.

This is one of those things that is like a mishap. I look in horror then can't stop sneaking a peek. Every once in a while I cAtch myself saying "well, maybe..." then I come to and put cold water on my face.

I have never been a fan of the high low hem. I am not that avant garde. Though after living in a very small rural farming community for 20 years it could be that my idea of "edge" is riding a donkey in pointed flats. I cannot imagine going to our little general store in these. They would think the hem got caught in the tractor. They would wonder how the boots survived.

ahh, thanks Dianthus, I may just have found my [OCD] style! :D I like what was said earlier, by Gaylene?, about the idea behind unusual hemming being to keep the line of the garments smooth.

In the late 60's, I had a finance teacher who was cultured and sophisticated. He was an opera critic and his teaching salary supplemented his commodities trading income. His suits were exquisite and crisp looking, perhaps matte silk or a silk blend.
There were already a lot of flared men's pants but his pants had that taper from front to back so that they hung flawlessly. I had never seen such a thing but I admired it.

I actually think it would work for jeans that are just a bit too narrow for tallish ankle boots and if you have boots that you want to show a bit more of when wearing straight pants. It would also eliminate the scrunch which I always found a little too "messy" looking for my OCD style.
