OK, thanks--I think I'll return it and shop for something else. I figure she included a gift receipt for a reason and she wont really know if I return it anyway. It is more of a work bag--more like a tote than a purse. Therefore, the giver wouldn't expect to see me carrying this bag to her house. I have the cream Gap patent bag and another plain black tote, and honestly that more than suits my needs.

Thanks for the push!

I kind of agree with Antje. I don't like shuffling all my stuff from bag to bag, and potentially missing one or two things. I remember one day I forgot my lip balm in another bag and it soured my whole mood (my lips get horribly dry). I wouldn't want a collection of evening bags either, just because I don't have a lifestyle for it. One evening bag could probably last me an entire lifetime.

I have two everyday, bring to work/school bags right now and a few different weekend bags. The only distinction is size, and my weekend bags tend to be more colorful. I just don't like to carry big bags over the weekend.

Hmmm, is there really no such thing as too many bags? I can see how it would be fun to have a collection of great evening bags to draw from. But for daytime bags, I would actually prefer to have one great one per season that I use every day, rather than moving my things around all the time. I have personally not solved this issue yet; I don't have a "great" bag that I would love using every day and that would provide the perfect accent to my wardrobe while also being practical and comfortable to carry. But I do hope to embark on such a search and find it. Currently I move my things between two or three different day bags, and find it cumbersome more than anything.
I guess the problem is that I have too much stuff in my bag which we discussed on previous threads... I wish I could use a bag as an accessory like shoes (of which I would definitely say you can't ever have too many ;-)) but bags just aren't as easy for me to swap as shoes.

Hmm, I agree with what has been said. The bag is nice but if you are not in love it I would exchange it for something you love. And yes, you can never have too many bags ( and shoes and accessories in general).

Nice bag but too conservative from what I see of your style. You might get great stuff right now with all the discounts! I agree that there is no such things as too many bags if you use them all!!

Nicole, your posts sounds like you're liking but not loving the bag. It's nice enough, but if you don't love it and you don't need it, then I'd say treat yourself to something else at Macy's that you love (or need.)

If you're not sure, you can always just get yourself to Macys and browse around to see if there is anything else that better suits you. And there is no law saying you need to exchange it for another bag. It really depends on how much you're going to use it, which in turn depends on how much it suits your style and lifestyle. If you think you can get something that would be more useful to you, maybe you should exchange it.

You can never have enough bags - they always fit if the style is right. But this bag does not scream “Nicole”. I vote return.

I think you can have too many bags if you don't have enough space to store them. That bag looks like a great work bag. I could see putting my files in it to schelp around the Capitol for when I have meetings. It would be a workhorse. But it doesn't seem to fit your lifestyle to me. From what I know of your job, you don't really need that, right? I think you could get something that you would use more.

My inlaws gave me this bag for my birthday:

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....sn_results

I have a gift receipt so I could return it very easily. I'm on the fence. It's a very nice bag--well made, and classic. I'm not sure I need another bag though. But can you ever have enough bags? Is it a little conservative.

Thoughts?
