I have a couple of pairs of the hip huggers and several pairs of the cheeky and I love them. Please forgive me if this post is a bit too TMI. I've been using them for few months now. Overall, I love them. I use the hip huggers only at overnight and but I usually have a pretty heavy flow. To date, I haven't had a problem with overflow at night. I use the cheekys during the day during the heavy part of my cycle as backup for tampons. To my, it's much more comfy than using regular pads. Towards the end of my cycle, I just use the underwear.

Care does take a little longer. Sometimes, it takes me a minute or 2 to completely rinse everything out. And sometimes, in the morning, they can feel wet. However, it doesn't feel worse than a full pad to me. Thinx are a little more expensive, but I like them a lot better than my Period Panties I got from Kickstarter earlier. I can still tell that they are there and if feels a little different than regular underwear, but it's not big and bulky, like some other brands.

Thanks for sharing that second review. I'm not sold (yet) but it's still really interesting to read about these products. Something new and inventive. Gotta say, I was surprised to see a thong version. I wouldn't trust a thong during TOM.

I found another brand of similar type underwear, Dear Kate and a review with a side-by-side comparison of both. This reviewer declared Thinx as the winner.

Dear Kate also makes yoga pants they named 'Go Kommando' with breathable leak-free inner liners that can hold three tablespoons of moisture.

I use a pair on those days when it's a bit early for me to start (but maybe it'll start early) to ease my mind. I use a diva cup and used a thin flannel pad to catch any extra (sorry not sure how to tastefully talk about this). The panties are more comfortable than an extra pad/liner and I like them. Clean up is easy--pre-rinse if needed, then wash. I would not use these alone on a heavy day btw, but do wear them alone on the leading up and trailing off days. Thumbs up from me.

This was a fascinating read so thank you for starting this thread, Colette! I also read the review that Lucy posted and I'm still sceptical. That "moist" feeling sounds really unappealing to me personally. Let us know if you try them, Colette. Would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

Thank you all for the info. I read the Brittany review Lucy linked and found it most helpful. She lays it all out and even addresses the washing part and says it's not gross; quick rinse in the sink and toss in the washer.

A diva cup didn't do the job for me but maybe paired with these everything would work out. However, one must wash them. Reduction of water usage is also an environmental concern. What are these like to clean? Do they take any extra care than a regular pair of undies?

I tried 2 styles, and like them alright. The high waisted retro style are super comfy, and I think they're pretty cute, if you're into that retro vibe. I wear them as just regular underwear under dresses even on days when I don't need them to fulfill their stated purpose. In fact, I'm thinking about getting another pair.
The hiphuggers feel thicker/more constricting to me, and, if I'm honest, are a smidge too small, which matters more because they don't have as much stretch.

I don't currently have a need for super absorbent products (thanks, wonderful contraceptive method!) so these more than fit my needs - prob why the hip hugger feels a little too heavy duty- but if I did I would use these undies instead of pantyliners, with a tampon or a diva cup- For those concerned about landfill waste, these and a Diva Cup would go a long way towards reducing monthly impact.

I have one pair, the Cheeky fit or something like that. It's a bit too cheeky for me but the functional part is fine. I would rebuy in the Hiphugger style.

I wear them as backup and for lighter days. I could probably do the Hiphugger on a heavy day but my flow is lighter than average (due to hormonal BC). The nude disappears well under white pants.

Only thing is that they DON'T feel like normal underwear, exactly. Not as bad as pads, but I don't forget I'm wearing anything like I do with slimmer tampons.

The site suggests them as backup, but the interviews allude to eliminating landfill, and the material construction doesn't seem like it would offer leak-proofing. But I think it's a good idea. Maybe one of the other brands out there...

Texstyle, I was thinking the same thing. Their most absorbent models claim to hold two tampons worth of fluid.....that would not last a full day for me.

I wish I had bookmarked a review I read. It was not positive. A journalist wore them for her normal 4 day or so cycle and tried various weights (they offer a few options). Anyway, she said on the lightest day, it was actually okay but after that, well, not so much at all.
