#2 was taken so far back it's hard to recall what that cut was like -- and with that angle you can't really see the rest of the cut. I am thinking now that it was quite similar cut to #4, except without tucking behind in the ears.

Queenmum, any time I chop the front part shorter than say cheek level, I wind up with major regrets because it just won't be tamed with all the flat ironing or hairspray etc in the world. I need the weight or it curls and does the "poof" -- which I don't mind at the crown but not as bangs.

San - to achieve those curls it was quite an effort. I used a special styling product my hairdresser wanted me to try. I then twirled sections of my hair with my fingers. Then sat and waited FOREVER for it to dry. My hair is fine and normally dries super fast, but not with this goop on it and not when twisted like that. Ultimately the effect was fun and a nice change of pace, but I have zero patience to do that all the time. If, when my hair is this length, I just let it dry naturally it *sometimes* turns out beautifully... but not always (more like frizz #3)... and I never know which I'm going to get. That's fine if I'm on the beach and who cares -- just put in a head band if it doesn't dry quite right. But for every day? No.

And before anyone recommends the curly strategies that recommend never shampooing your hair, or shampooing with conditioner... I can't do that. Believe me, I've tried. I become a big greasy mess AND my hair just falls flat and lifeless.

It sounds like everyone is voting short... but I am still craving long! Maybe I just want a change for now.

I really like you on #2, but I'm worried it might require a lot of effort and blow drying so it looks like that? Is your hair naturally wavy? How does it look at that length when not treated?

I am really impressed with the curl in pic #1. I'd love to see you get a cut that allows you to play up the curl. I also think you look good with the hair off your forhead in that pic. I like pic#2 also but for a change curls might be fun.

Shiny- I was referring to pics 2 and 4.. with 2 being my favorite of the bunch in shape and color.
I'll trust you when you say you can't do bangs, but I think having your forehead slightly covered is more flattering... (as in pic 2). So you really don't think you could do long choppy bangs like in the first pic I shared?

Queen Mum -- which cuts with bangs? I wouldn't consider any of those "bangs." I look horrid in bangs like the pics you share. They never lay flat -- they curl. Also something about my forehead; it just does not work. I wore bangs for a long time in high school and then realize they were unflattering and never went back. The most I will do is have a slightly shorter piece in the front, but the "bang" is still quite long, long enough to just barely tuck behind my ear. That is actually the case in pic 2.

As for the piecy cuts, YES, I have done that in the past! (but without bangs) I loved those cuts. I would have a lot of fun with them. The current hairdresser is not as good cutting my hair "piecy" -- it was the hairdresser before that who was a master at it. But he moved to NYC.

Rose- pics 2 and 4 are not cool ash. Those are actually warm tones. I do not do cool ash well at all; washes me out. The color in those pics was a combo of caramel and a subtle red lowlight (I actually have a lot of red in my hair -- my hairdresser has long wanted me to dye it auburn, but I don't want to put up with the maintenance). We alternate each time: one time I will get a dose of highlights (she says they are "netural" -- neither cool nor warm); then next time she does lowlights and maybe just one or two highlights near my face.

I like #2 best, Jennifer. I think you look most sophisticated and chic with your hair that length, with a long fringe, and straight. I like the idea of the short shag, but it's a mare to get right in the morning. I am speaking from experience :(

Love outfit #5!!! KILLER.

Oh exciting. I hate going to the hairdressers without a plan because I'm easily persuaded to try something radically unsuitable at the drop of a hat...hello peach hair...hello undercut.

I have a slight preference for the cool ash colour in pics 2 & 4 against your complexion but I am useless when it comes to the cut because I believe your hair looks great at all of the lengths shown.

I like the cuts with bangs the best. Have you ever considered a short "shag" type? (shorter and choppy around your face?)

something along the lines of these...

I've been growing my hair out all summer, and I'm way overdue for a salon visit. (If you look closely you can see my highlights have grown out about 4 inches! I only went one shade lighter last time so it's not horribly noticeable).

I am on the fence about what to do with my hair this next visit. I had worn my hair fairly short -- chin length, just tuckable behind the ears -- for a long time. I guess I am craving something different. Despite it being harder to manage and style, the longer hair is "growing" on me.

I basically always get a variation on a reverse bob, no matter what length. My hairdresser always seems to cut it slightly different each time so no two cuts have ever been the same. Anyway, I'm wondering if I should try something different this time? I am open to suggestions!

Questions for debate:

1) Get a trim, but keep growing it out?

Not sure how much longer it would grow without starting to drive me batty. I initially cut it short because it does not really go into a ponytail -- to thin and if I'm brutally honest, just looks silly. I found I was nearly always wearing it that way, despite it looking ridiculous, so I chopped....

2) Get a trim, but aim to keep it around the same length it is currently, and no longer? (in other words take off maybe an inch and plan to get back again when it grows back an inch). Pluses with this: I am kind of liking the longer length for a change.

3) Chop it shorter again. Pluses with this: in the cooler, dryer months, I do like my hair shorter because then it's not attracting static from my woolens and doing the "flyaway" thing. And with scarves shortening my already short neck, I figure shorter hair helps with the proportion.

4) Do something radically different than a variation on a reverse bob?

5) Color: which do you like, the 1-2 shades lighter vs the highlights plus lowlights?

Unfortunately I lost a lot of older photos recently when my computer crashed. Here are some to give you an idea of various cuts and lengths:

pic 1 - short hair, allowed to air dry naturally.
pic 2 - short hair with lowlights
pic 3 - current length, allowed to air dry naturally. At this length, you can see the curl is more of a big scary "poof." I bravely share this horrid, make-up free pic to give you an understanding of the texture we're dealing with here! I do not really like to wear my hair curly, except in summer on beach days.
pic 4 - shortest I've had it. Sorry I could not find a better pic. Yes this is a silly halloween pic with pink hair spray.
pic 5 - current length, after growing it out all summer.
pic 6 - my favorite cut ever. Keep asking my hairdresser to duplicate it, but she hasn't succeeded. It must've been some fluke.
