Thanks, Lemonade and Jem!

Thanks, missvee! You' right about the frizz problem with too short layers, I will mention that.

Thanks, Dashrashi. I did like her hair that way, but I'm not sure I want to go that short at the moment.

Thanks, Scarlet! My part is very stubborn, it really wants to stay the way it is now! It's like that since I was little. I've tried to move it to the side in the past, but every time my scalp started hurting after a short time. And no, I don't have a hairdresser at all at the moment! I've last been to the hairdresser years ago, I always got my ends trimmed by a friend at home. Do you have a recommendation? I do have a suggestion a friend of mine made, but that would be the first time I went there. I haven't made an appointment yet.

Thanks, Helen!

Chiming in to say I love your thick and curly hair, Astrid! I don't think you need to do anything drastic. You could have some light layers cut around your face, so your hair can be more versatile - it would release even more of the curl, emphasis your eyes better, and you could wear it up with some pieces framing your face. And when you're in the mood, you can straighten it for fun, and it will look healthy and shiny. Can't wait to see what you choose to do!
Signed, Fellow Naturally Curly Girl.

Your hair is so pretty, I would just add some long layers (joining the chorus). Try playing around with the part too--either zig zag or side part.. I think that would change things up quite a bit.

ETA, do you have a hairdresser you can trust?

You've got a gorgeous face and your long curly hair is really flattering on you. If you want some layers, make sure they are not too short or they might frizz up on you. If you can, go in and talk to the stylist before you make an appointment, and see what she suggests.

Thanks, Meredith, I think you're right.

Donna, that's a good idea. I think a few shorter strands framing my face would look nice and would work well with updos. Unfortunately I don't really have a regular stylist because my last real cut was years ago, but a friend recommended one. My friend has straight hair, but she says the stylist has beautiful natural curls, so I guess she should know what to do! I thought I'd call there tomorrow.

I would just get a few inches trimmed off of the bottom and get some long layers put into it. It will make it less heavy and give it more bounce.

This is a pic of my hair when it was longer and had some long layers in it. Without the layers, my hair is super heavy and drags down.

When you put your hair up a month or two ago, I think I a few members suggested that you pull down a few tendrils near your face, and if I remember correctly, I think you mentioned that you didn't have any short tendrils. Maybe you could have your hair trimmed such that putting it up would work more easily for you? Make sure you see a stylist who isn't afraid of curly hair!

You have beautiful thick curly hair! Long layers will just liberate that curl and make them even springier.

Thanks, Kelly! I'm hesitant to cut too much anyway, because it took me so long to get them to the length they are now. Some longer layers and a trim for the ends is probably the way to go, you're right.

ETA

I've tried to find some pics with wavy layered hair, but I wasn't successful. Most of the results show curly iron waves and curls, not natural ones.

Nay on the pyramid hair. Your hair is so pretty, Astrid. I think you could add some longer layers to get rid of some of the volume on the bottom just to change things up--but seriously, your hair is so gorgeous the way it is. Perhaps just taking off a few inches for spring and summer would be enough of a change?

MsKatieKat, I had a chin length bob (while letting them grow) in 2009, here's the best pic I could find. But that was actually one of the days my hair looked good! Mostly I just lose the curls with shorter hair and am in danger of having pyramid hair.

I've had it straightened before, mostly when friends decided they wanted to see how I looked without my curls, but I never liked it that much. It just doesn't feel like me somehow.

I think your hair looks beautiful and if cut, best only to have a light trim.

Why not consider straightning for a different look? You will not be making a major commitment then.

I noticed that my ends don't look that good anymore and I've decided to get a trim soon. First I only thought about getting my ends trimmed, but now I feel like I want to change it a bit more this time around.

My hair is pretty much all one length besides some strands near my face that are a bit shorter. Mostly I just let my hair grow for the last four years (I had a pixie cut) and trimmed the ends in between, but I never had a real cut with layers, bangs or whatever in that time. I don't think I want to grow my hair longer than it is now, so maybe it's time for some small changes?

My hair is naturally wavy and sometimes curly and I definitely want to keep it that way or even try for more curls. I don't use a brush or a blowdryer and I don't want to start with it now. So I need a cut that works with my natural hair structure. I'm not sure how much length I would be comfortable to lose.

Do you have any suggestions? Should I just get some layers to frame my face and get the ends trimmed?
