Hi Rae. Coming back to say I 100% think you should create your own mis-matched, fashion-forward suit from what you already have. Sometimes the best outfits come from having financial constraints and this is where your personality can shine. Anyone can go out and buy a plain matching suit for an interview. But not everyone can style like you can. Knowing how much you dislike suits, I think don't think you would feel like yourself wearing one. It would be a shame to spend a huge amount of money for something (like your old grey suit) that you would hardly wear, and I'd be terrified to wear it to the interview with the tags on for fear they could tell (I'm sure they deal with a lot of returns where people do this regularly). Good luck and I know you'll figure out something fantastic that shows your marvelous fashion sense.

It's so frustrating that you have to spend $$ on a suit like this in a rush, when you have so many great skirts and jackets already and a suit is not your preferred thing.

I prefer the fit and colour of the navy on you. The grey doesn't seem to fit as well, IMO. However, if it seems easier to wear to you, then that could be the way to go.

I am just waking up and digesting all this, but thank you ALL for the comments. I plan to be out at TJ Maxx as soon as they crack the doors... I remember a really cool jacket I tried on there that fit perfectly and had a matching skirt... but I had thought, "Oh, when will I need a suit again? I am on SYC, silly!" Ugh, famous last words.

Shiny, FWIW, HR told me that a suit was preferred, so I am suiting up because of that. (I am interviewing for Nordstrom Rack on Friday).

Rae, you look fantastic in both of these. I've missed something while travelling so I'm off to read your threads. I'm actually jealous. I really *want* a suit like these, but I can't really justify buying one. What store are these from? I love them!

P.s. I do not find anything "flight attendant" about the navy suit. It is an impeccable suit and fits impeccably. I also don't see anything wrong with having such a suit in your closet, assuming it's not breaking your budget.

The trick is to style it so it doesn't scream "I used to be in banking." If I was to wear it to an interview, for anything other than banking or fashion, I'd style it up with shoes packed with personality (anything other than a black pump), a fantastic bag, statement necklace or scarf, etc. The devil is in the details. A suit like this can go from banking/conservative to, say, high tech with a switch of accessories.

To make it work for a fashion-related job, it would need to be broken up into separates and mixed with other pieces. Like, I dunno... wear that suit jacket over a black leather skirt, or a lace skirt, or over a neon dress, or with slouchy trousers.... or take Angie's tactic for her Stacy London interview, pair an impeccable suit with an impeccable white collared shirt and an amazing pair of fashion-forward shoes.

The navy fits you better. However, for a fashion job, I don't think you need a matching suit. I may have voted on your other thread in favor of a suit, but I meant "wear a suit jacket or blazer, not a cardigan" and do a creative, fashionable interpretation. If you're going to go matching coordinates, then the suit has to be something in a style that's not so conservative as these.

And please don't wear black shoes with either of these suits. Wear something with more interest and personality. Pop of color, animal print. Heck, the shoes in the photos look great to me!

Unless you may have non-fashion interviews coming up, I'd return the suit and save your money. You know what I'd love to see you in? You had some really creative outfits that used a dress. I will have to go back into your WiW's to jog my memory. What about an amazing dress, with a suit jacket over it? (Either a conservative jacket, or a funky one). There may be a jacket already in your closet that would work?

Rae, they both look great. I was a former HR exec in a long, long ago life. In, um, banking, if you can believe it. I also worked in some other kinds of fairly conservative industries, too, but never in the fashion or retail industries. You might think I'd be a hands-down vote for the navy, but I'm going to vote for the one that you think you can make more your own, and for the one that you think you can use more after the interview. You're not in banking anymore, and, so, I don't think that an interview at Nordstrom's necessitates a blue interview suit. Navy is an on-trend color, but, if you still look at it as a "navy interview suit" that you spent a lot of money on, and it gets relegated to the back of your closet, it's not really the right one, eh?

I think the grey will be more versatile for you, will go with your brights, can be dressed "down" more easily, is year-round colour, etc....The navy does "look" like it fits a bit more sleekly in the photos, though.. You really can't go wrong, they both look lovely.
Hope you find EXACTLY what you are looking for bargain hunting. Good luck.

I have to vote navy. Both fit nicely, but I prefer the navy for versatility (and can be used for funerals or weddings if needed). It works with all of your brights. Not sure where you purchased these, but I have the best luck with suits at department stores as they usually have racks on clearance or sale and extra coupons on top.

Don't get me wrong, I think navy looks great on you. I just struggle with making it non-conservative, and grey is so much more of a comfort zone for me in terms of being able to UWP-ify anything. I can think of a billion ways to dress down the grey, starting with the cropped Allsaints jacket and all of your boots. Or BF jeans on the bottom half.

Yeah, I really like the navy on you. It's easily flattering to your coloring. It does need UWP-ifying, tho.

I vote gray (grey?) all the way. Navy is for the bank!

I still vote gray. Is this the same suit in both colors? (funny, my first suit I bought at the Rack, and was so stoked that it was only $60 or something totally crazy cheap.)
