That makes sense, always trying. It could be the wrong boxy jacket for you.

abc, for example, a tailored one button modern classic blazer is stylish but not fashionable.

thanks everyone-I will keep the booties and the pumps because they are only 1 of the 2 pairs of pumps that stay on my feet. But the boxy jacket is going. Even if it is fashionable it makes me, with my short neck and wide shoulders, look like a turtle.

Angie, can you expand on the second bullet - stylish but not fashionable?

I echo Denise 100%.

Boxy jackets are very fashionable actually. And on that note - here are the boxes:

Fashionable & Trendy

Stylish but not Fashionable

Dated FOR YOU

Dated for everyone

Neither of them screams dated, especially not the suede booties. Those look current. The round toe of the pumps looks less current than the booties but not dated either, looking more classic.

As for boyfriend jackets and cardigans, I am still seeing a lot of things in these styles. As for boyfriend jeans, I'm seeing plenty of those too although the trend might be to wear those a bit slimmer than before.

I happen to like the look of both the booties and the pumps. I think they would add interest and even pizazz to an outfit. The question to ask is if they fit your style direction and make you happy. If not, then it's time to say goodbye.

I like to stay current, but I like to mix a lot of old and new for an overall modern look. Like donnat, I don't cull items from my wardrobe just because they aren't 'in'. If they are still 'me' and work well into a modern outfit, they stay!

I cull things because (a) they don't fit well (b) they fit but they aren't comfortable after a full day's wear....like if a fabric feels itchy or sticks to my body uncomfortably, or if a top keeps riding up as I go about my day (3) the colour doesn't work well for me and makes me look dull (4) I've worn it so often, I'm sick of seeing it and would like a replacement

Other than that, I don't have any other criteria for removing things from my wardrobe.....definitely not trends. Infact I love the booties you are about to get rid of... I've been looking for something like that! I also love the pumps actually....simple but so classy....but then, that's just me

Same as donnat - I go by what I like and what I want to wear. I spend a lot of time and money on my wardrobe and I'm not going to throw things out that I still like even though it's not "this season". I have enough current pieces to mix in with the not so current things so that I don't look completely out of touch (I think). It's not like I am in a high fashion industry or city and have to keep up with anyone else.

Some things from past seasons that I have gotten rid of are the really short cardigans (shrugs) that didn't even come down to my waist, short sleeve and 3/4 sleeve cardigans (just not enough arm coverage to keep me warm), a lot of my basic work trousers (just feel boring to me), and of course the obvious: shoes that hurt my feet, items that no longer fit well, things are showing wear, things I am tired of.

I agree with donnat to a point.
I don't want to be following "in" or "out" lists but I do think it can be helpful to evaluate between options--this, or that? And how to take an outfit or item I like, and get advice on what makes it look fresher. I can take or leave the advice. I find those posts helpful.

Sveta does some really good ones in which she identifies what item (s) go out to make room for something new or new style direction.

Other posts where someone is "on the fence" about an item, considering replacing, but may be servicable, get feedback on how it "looks" to others. Again, sometimes helpful, sometimes all over the map, just something to put in the equation.

I don't look at it like that. Whether something is "in" or "out" . I stop wearing an item because either, it no longer makes me happy or I have replaced it with something I like better.

Getting ready to make room for some fall purchases, and wondering about the longevity of what I have and what to purchase, even though there has been little about fall trends yet. I am just concerned about what may look dated more than something that is just not trendy.

I think for sure a short boxy jacket has to go, not sure about a boyfriend blazer, a big boyfriend cardigan, the booties below, and block heel gold plated pumps. Wadda you think? what are your thoughts on things you will not be wearing? BF's-I am getting tired of them. But they seem to be calling what I think of as looser in the leg skinnies that are rolled BF's now.
