Love it!!! You inspired me to buy this very skirt a few years ago, and I also enjoy mine the most of the 3 others I've since purchased, in varying lengths. That's a great top, and the whole outfit is super cute.

Oh my gosh - I almost had a Ripskirt wardrobe failure in NYC last month, though....as I slid across the back seat of the Uber to exit safely out out the other door, as one must in NYC, the velcro started pulling away and I barely had time to grab it and refasten safely as I got out of the car!

Sally, that is so interesting. I, too, don't like to take spontaneous bargains off the table entirely... (Consignment shopping can be a good source for that kind of shopping thrill...). In this case, I think I bought the top specifically to wear with the old skirt (so no wonder it was orphaned for a while, duh!!!). It was on sale when I purchased but I didn't buy it because it was on sale.

I still have hopes that both those dresses could come into their own given the right occasion and weather.

Suz - I totally agree with that. I have stuff I have not weeded out for that reason. Top looks fab on you and wonderful with the skirts. Sometimes a piece needs specific outfits but within that it's a total workhorse. Those are the ones I can't let go. I have two cropped EF black tops almost the same silhouette one in jersey and one in silk....and they wait....enjoy yours!! You look wonderful!

Suz - I think I was trying to make both blouses dressy and wear them to work (I like them best with jeans or white denim shorts when their softness comes into it's own).

As I think about it these were all pieces bought on an impulse because three of them were on sale (two $20 or less) and the other one I wanted to try the colour.... I had no plan in mind really with any of them.

In comparison I mostly either now buy off a list that is planned or if it is a statement and outside my shopping list eg my new palazzo pants or my long coatigan, I still planned in store how I would wear them, with what else, and if I would get the use out of them.

For me, I don't want to take the spontaneous bargain off the table, or never buy on a whim....but it is worth pausing for 5-10 minutes in store to mentally do a check if you will wear the piece. A couple of examples where I did not do that - these two dresses, one second hand and very affordable, and one heavily discounted. The spot dress I do like, but I suspect I am going to pass it on without wearing. And the navy I have worn once, and can't think where I can wear it again. I am sitting on them for now.

I’m surprised, ‘cause it looks like such a versatile top. Out of sight, out of mind I guess?

In 2018 I got a great fitting pair of CK jeans but for some reason I always reached for the Levi’s and the CK’s languished. In 2020 I cropped them to Bermuda length, and they’ve racked up 57 wears since!

Thanks for the info re: Ripskirt coming to Canada and the link. I’m on the list now, too!

ETA, Sally, I wonder why those great items didn't get a lot of wear at the beginning? The dotted top and sandals look made for each other (and maybe they needed each other?). The others look easy to wear if you have the right bottoms. It's all in the supporting act, as Angie would say, and in your case and mine that is obviously true.

Angie, you are right about the echoed shapes!

SarahDB, that is right -- not every item needs to be a workhorse from the start. I did wear the top when I first bought it -- wore it quite a few times -- but once its partner skirt was gone it was an orphan. Now it ihas a partner again.

Thanks, all. It really is a perfect top for the heat -- you don't even notice that it is black (i.e. it is so breezy that it doesn't heat you up due to the colour, which does sometimes happen with black items.)

Lisa, I think it was the cost plus shipping that held you back, plus not being able to try on for sizing. It *was* pricey in CAD (for what it is, I mean -- a casual skirt made out of board short material, for heaven's sake!) but it has definitely earned its way in my closet. (One of our US friends mailed it to me so I avoided duty, yay, and thank you.)

It has been one of my most worn items in the summer for the past 3 years. I think it works because it is made of an indestructible and very cool fabric, you can get it sopping wet and it does not matter a bit, you can wash and dry it really quickly, and it needs no ironing, so it is packable (not that I have been away a ton, to say the least, but I did take it to hot Saskatchewan last summer and wore it in the evenings.) You can dress it up and you can dress it down and you can wear it as a bathing suit cover up.

The woman stopped making this length of skirt, alas. It's the best length by far, in my view!

But look here -- they are going to start shipping to Canada and you can get a discount if you sign up for their mailing list to say when! https://ripskirthawaii.com/pages/aloha-canada

SOOO glad you kept that KILLER top, Suz. Love a party at the back. It's very flattering, and mimics the silhouette of the skirt. Awesome match! You can pretend it's navy :)

Fab hat and sunnies! Looking elegantly casual for our 34C yesterday.

I love the back detail. I, too, find that this happens to me too. My preferences - for example in summer, whether I prefer dresses, skirts, or cropped pants, vary from year to year, but if I liked an item I will like and wear an item again, and be so glad I still own it.

Really nicely designed top. I wouldn't have abandoned it, either. :D

Oh I get this, quite often too. I am a slow editor. Just this summer I have a denim dress that I have owned for probably ten years that is suddenly a workhorse. I never realised it is actually cool even though it has three quarter sleeves. A skirt I have been dying to edit out for years has found it's place this year. I think I should just hang on to most of my vast wardrobe because it's time always comes. Love your top btw.

Oh, very nice! And excellent to have just the thing for a heat wave.

I just recently acquired a rash guard with a very similar cut. Maybe I should wear it in regular life, not just inner tubing down an Oregon river!

This makes me think maybe there is a corollary to "not every item has to be a workhorse" that might go something like "not every item has to be a workhorse *all the time*"

That is a fabulous top, and you have styled it perfectly with the skirt. Some wardrobe items need time to settle in before they make it to an outfit. Tops like that do come in handy. I have a few pieces like that. I keep them because I know they will eventually get worn.

That’s a great top, and your intuition about keeping it around probably means that you have excellent fashion ESP! Much love for the skirt, too,.
