That's kind of what I meant about PPL and yoga pants - what's a good length for one situation isn't useful for another. My yoga pants are perfect for yoga, just right. But I wore them in public with my running shoes on my way to an aerobics class, and when I saw myself reflected in a window all I could think of was how exposed my ankles were!

It's not like I was wearing a stylish outfit to begin with: a baggy tee with a hoodie and a sports bag were the rest of the ensemble. But I was just so proud of myself for identifying a lack of PPL, normally it's something I struggle to recognise

I'm with you, Mo- my PPL yoga pants that fit well with running shoes are not fit for yoga! I love them in seated poses, but they are more aggravating in standing poses (especially when switching quickly). I have to roll the waist a bit for them to work with bare feet.

Just coming back to this thread - one of the things I never worried about before YLF and never even THOUGHT I would worry about is having too many clothes to choose from. I've downsized my wardrobe a few times since I started reading & posting on YLF and found an incredible freedom in culling the items that just didn't work, and keeping a smaller & more manageable wardrobe. It's also helped me tremendously to figure out how to put together a "capsule wardrobe" for traveling, and I no longer panic when I don't have 100% of my clothes at my disposal.

I was biting my tongue but must add that what is perfect for seeing your feet for alignment in warrior pose is not going to be perfect with any kind of shoe. Unless you want to step on your pant's hem throughout yoga class.

Stringy - perhaps I shouldn't even mention this "out loud" here, but I don't feel like PPL has a place in my workout wardrobe like it does with my regular clothes/pants. If I'm wearing yoga pants to run with running shoes, and I'm running outside, the last thing I want to do is be stepping on the hems of my pants or slogging them through mud!

OMG, I am totally obsessed with everything these days. I am actually spending time at night trying out the next day's outfit. I have never, ever, EVER done that in my life! Fortunately my husband is out of town on business so he's not here to witness the insanity -- I don't know what I'll do when he gets home! LOL

And I have Angie and all of you in my head, and I feel like I need to hit a home run every day. And I'm not satisfied with all my perfectly nice, coordinated looks that have been my staples for years. Now I want to be "edgy," and "killer," and "bold." And then I go too far in the opposite direction, like swapping out the perfectly lovely caramel bag for the purple bag when there was no reason to do so, and... and...

I swear, I'm a wreck. LOL

AND HOLD EVERYTHING!! NY&Co. is LERNER'S??? OMG!! I bought my 8th grade graduation dress at Lerner's and I felt so glam and fab because they put the dress in a BOX to take home, and I about died from the glamour and fabulousness of it all!

Ahem.

Did I mention I was a wreck?

PPL is now a full-on obsession.
It takes much longer to put together an outfit.
I, too, have a lovely Angie in my head (along with April and a few others), asking, "Yes, but is it Killer? How about swapping that necklace for a scarf or a bolder statement necklace? How about a little color? Maybe that pewter belt? Have you thought about wearing that shirt with a skirt? And, for heaven's sake, WHY don't you have any booties yet??"

Stringy, I am giggling at the image of you and your husband both emerging from the bedroom, seeing each other and having a stand-off over your matching jackets!

I'm definately trying to grasp onto the PPL and fit issues here. Last week was a real eye opener for me when Theresa pointed out how a shirt, whilst nice, was not a good enough fit, because the darts were slightly positioned in the wrong spot. A little lightbulb went off in my head!

OMG - I never knew Lerner's was NY&Co! Really? It seems I haven't seen Lerners in about as long as Datsun has been Nissan . . .

For my part, some of the proportions are a new thought to me - like I never had a clue pants and skirts needed different length tops, I just knew something looked 'off' about it.

But mostly I'm like Annagybe and dealing with age appropriateness and those new nagging voices in my head saying 'is this too young/short/tight/cheap looking' lol.

ahhh....well, i've always tried my best to look my best. i transitioned from covering my nakedness to caring about style/fit way back in my teens (soon to be 29)

BUT YLF has made me broaden my horizons and think of my clothes in different ways. It's given me the green light I needed to be me and not tone down my style all the time bc I was 'overdressed' in comparison to others around me.

i never could find a pair of yoga pants that were PPL...so I wear old pull on knit trousers from back when NY&Co was known as Lerners. only around the house.

These are fun. April's list could be mine except #6 would also include being able to find the magic formula so a photo will upload to YLF. It's still hit or miss. I have photos of one item 4 or 5 ways from the SYC challenge that need to be posted. maybe tomorrow...

YES! (sorry, didn't mean to shriek)

I have Angie in my head, too! Every time I shop, there's Angie cheerfully asking me all sorts of important questions about what I'm considering. It frequently has something to do with whether I'm expanding my horizons:)

I actually didn't worry before and I rarely worry now. But I do have much more fun getting dressed for the day and enjoying what I wear. And that is 100% attributable to each and every one of you:)

1. PPL

I'm another PPL person, I've gone so far as to label the hangers of my jeans and cross reference it with a spread sheet so I don't grab the wrong shoes in my morning get ready in a rush maddness.

I'm grown on obsession with blazers. Which is odd because I never wore them at ALL before, now I wear them all the time. My cardigans are sad.

I take longer to get ready, and use a mirror. I try to match up accessories and give my look a once over before rushing out the door.

I have to bite my tongue when I see others breaking some of the rules (PPL or improper bras).

I've become obsessed with trying to whittle down my closet. Unfortunately most times I just stand there and stare at the clothes, and nothing makes it into the donation bag. I did good for a little while, but still have a lot more than I wear or need.

Hmmm...never worried too much about PPL with my bootcuts and boots. I could wear them barefoot around the house then run out in my heels later in the day. Can't have it both ways now, I actually have 2 different pairs of bootcuts for this now! (One for my flats, Cons, barefoot, and one for my heels)

Never thought about "layering" as a fashion thing, more of a comfort thing. My version of layering was to simply throw a sweatshirt or sweater on over my shirt, whatever that was. I owned about 2 sweaters and they went over everything...I own quite a few more now.

Scarfs are not just for winter anymore...I am wearing one right now as an accent piece to my outfit. It's not just for keeping my neck warm, although I'm glad it does! LOL

One purse does not do it all... It can't possibly be casual, dressy, fun, etc all at once... They are cheap enough to have some fun with. I just went out and bought a leopard ruffled clutch last week as a "fun" accessory. I wouldn't wear it to a business meeting, but to go and play with my crazy girlfriends it's perfect.

You can mix and match your clothes...It actually saves you money and time! No more orphans in the closet. (Well not many, but this is only my first year).

You can wear trends when you are 49...The trick for me (and I love that I know this now) is to pair many classic pieces with one trendy item. It doesn't look like you are trying too hard, looks classy and often elegant and gives you the license to try things you might not normally think you'd feel comfy in (like my very first ever pair of OTK boots to be debuting this winter...) I was often uncomfortable trying trends because I thought you had to go "all the way" with them. IE Military style would have been a jacket, the combat type boots, cargo pants all done in some version of khaki. Instinctively I knew this was "wrong" for me, so avoided *all* military stuff as a result. Now I know, one item will go a long way!

There's so much more, but I'll let another poster take the stage now.

Oh, and by the way, THANKS ANGIE AND YLF for getting me here!

It's not so much a worry, but I have acquired a little voice in my head that has a lovely British accent. Whenever I go shopping now, I hear Angie chirping away - "Does it fit? Does it fill a place in your wardrobe? Do you love it?" When I get dressed, the voice asks, "Are you black rutting? What about some color today?" When I look in the mirror, the voice says, "What about pearls with that outfit?"

It's quite nice, actually!

I used to worry about everything. About dressing the same to work and casually. About being too fat to fit into anything. I used to have crying fits at the end of most shopping trips. I still worry, but mostly about making sure I'm not falling into a rut. I still feel too fat or short or whatever for some trends I adore but I definitely worry a LOT less about much fewer things than I did before

Dressing! Plain and simple! I never ever had a single dilemma about what to wear. Ever. Ever. I focused on being neat and clean. Life was easier then...

But now it's so much more fun :-)

[although I shudder whenever I think about event wear at the moment as I haven't got that sorted!]

Very interesting read.

The awareness of PPL's is music to my ears :)

Stringy, the matchy-matchy couples thing will have me chuckling for the rest of the day. Sometimes, Greg and I wear matching specs!

I still have days like yesterday when it felt like everyone at work was in jeans (except the bosses) and I was in a pencil skirt and heels. I felt a little awkward about it but I tried to remember Angie's advice that you should never feel bad about dressing nicely. And with my boss retiring soon I'm trying to dress for the position I want. Either way, being overdressed isn't something I EVER had to worry about before.

I'm much more sensitive to top length with skirts and pants. I look at some of my old outfit photos from when I started and I cringe. It's solved some of my problems too. I had a perfectly good sweater on the thrift store pile but then I figured out I just needed to wear it with skirts.

I never worried that I needed much more than one pair of shoes for a season. Yes, I pretty much wore the same pair of shoes every day until they wore out! Now I'd like to have at least 3-4 options. So it's taking a while to build that part of my wardrobe up.

One of my big remaining challenges is loungewear. I pay a lot of attention to what I wear outside of the house but still like to throw on the same old black pants and hoodie when I get home.

Elly, you will soon be feeling so fab you'll want to dance down the street in a great outfit. Pick one area of your wardrobe to work on at a time and soon all your outfits will be moving up a notch.

Theresa I'm glad you know what I mean! Some days we're obviously in the same mindset about what the weather requires, and then we pick the same colours... it's a bit of a trap
