The coral top is a gorgeous colour on you, Sal. I love the combination of the coral top and kimono jacket with jeans. I would think the cream jacket would be a great piece to have in your wardrobe.

Thanks all - I liked these casual looks too.

I have put the tee and tunic in storage and will donate next spring. Once I saw this coral top as a layer to wear under a jacket I thought of some further options.

I also have to be honest with myself - I have worn out two favourite pairs of shoes and edited out a sweater that I am not wearing. My shopping ban ends tomorrow and I don’t want to create gaps for the sake of it. Not every piece is a workhorse - and these are all sunk costs.

Brilliant to combine the coral top with the kimono—the coral is a fab color for you, and the top gives a fresh look to the kimono.

I’m glad you started this thread. I have a hard time knowing when to let go of some things, especially if they were prior favorites. It’s much easier to be objective looking at someone else’s wardrobe than my own!

I have taken the chance to wear the coral top this week - and the kimono.

The pic with the kimono makes me look a bit lopsided / I think this is a bit of static.

I quite like these looks - one for a day at the tennis and one for a catch up with my cousins.

Quick reply here but will post a WiW later with two of these pieces. Had an idea in the shower.

I don’t want to let things go too quickly - because then suddenly I am only left with workhorses and these less worn items can sometimes be just the one. I also do need to know that I will continue to add pieces - and that pieces come and go in popularity - weather variations, mood, and occasions all play a part.

In saying that one of these pieces is going and one is very likely to be too.

Three of these are made by my friend- a designer - and I sometimes let pieces in a little too easily that she has made because I like her and like the piece.

I would keep the kimono and cream jacket since you haven't had quite the right weather to wear them yet. If spring rolls around and you still haven't worn them and aren't feeling it, I would pass them on. The others I would let go since you didn't really wear them much this summer and don't sound excited about them.

See, it’s interesting- other people are more willing for you to let things go than me. If it were me, I might be keeping them all and trying to make them work. I suppose this is how my wardrobe got so big in the first place, because like unfrumped I have to be honest that I will keep buying. Although as I have been buying better things since joining YLF the rate has significantly slowed- eg only one item since Christmas. And getting rid of 41 items last year, the most ever possibly, did help!

Love the kimono jacket and the cream jacket. They should certainly be keepers. There will be lots of styling opportunities for them.

The yellow tee could be worn with beige/tan/brown/yellow/orange/rust/olive chinos/jeans/cords and a topper and/or scarf in any of those colours. The topper could be a coatigan.

I would let the two other items go.

Have you tried the coral top with the kimono?

I agree with others that you could pass on the tee and tunic. The coral top may be too fussy for your real life, so I'd be favor of you passing that on and maybe searching out something easier to wear in that color.

Kimonos have a very specific temperature requirement, but I like to have one or two on hand for those times. I think it's okay to keep it unless you need every single thing in your wardrobe to be a workhorse. It also seems like you can continue to get some wear out of the jacket. See if you wear it in the shoulder season, which as you say is the right time for it. I wouldn't pass it on yet.

I agree with keeping the kimono (and the cream jacket if it’s still useful for you). I feel like the others could go. I’m seeing that coral color at retail now so I bet you can find a better top in a similar color. And it sounds like you are over the tunic.

You might have more use for the tee now that high-waisted jeans are back in and I think it looks great on you. I also like the coral color on you but it sounds kind of difficult to make work, is it worth it? I'm surprised you don't get a lot of use out of the cream jacket, it seems like a nice neutral to throw over an outfit when it's cool out. Does the kimono have enough structure for you? You look so nice in #1 with the defined waist that it makes me wonder.

I appreciate your post as I’ve been slowly culling things myself and trying to figure out why/ why not.

Things that are too fussy are going unless they may me look like a movie star( so that eliminates all, haha) or are perfect special- occasion.

I’m not a fan of the coral top style, actually, so I think, look for something more versatile / easier in that color.
Also, I have been re- mixing just as you were doing to see if new combos work. That often means trying with best jeans or perfect blazer or different colors. If no super outfits, then I can let go.

One thing that helps is I try to be honest about the fact that I AM going to keep adding new pieces, and so if I can identify what’s “ off” about something, I can let it go but put on my list, “ I like ___ , but need it to be...( longer, higher neck, less wrinkly, etc).

Aside from the coral top, the trouble with these items (from my climate perspective- ymmv) is unicorn weather! High 60s -low 70s F low humidity....I used to buy similar items too-including not 1 but 2 short sleeve velvet tops with flowy unlayerable sleeves (facepalm).

I like the kimono a lot and the cream jacket is definitely classic, though color wise you may wear it more in your spring than fall. Trouble with the kimono though, is with the loose sleeves, you can't layer a jacket over it for colder weather.

Even from the hanger pics I can tell the tunic and coral are very sheer. The coral is pretty but needs a tube top as an underlayer, due to the halter neck. The tunic is nice with the white pants, and could work over black print pants too, but do you have enough mild days? The printed T could work for mild summer weather with a tube skirt or high waisted shorts, if you have. And you may wear it more since there are more available high waisted pants now-if you have those unicorn transitional weather days.

Oh Sally I have heaps of things like this! I love the coral top and the kimono.
I like the birds of paradise on the tee but it looks like it crumples easily?
I don’t know. It depends on space.
Sometimes I make myself wear something for a bit and then really like it again. With a small tweak of some sort, something different underneath, a minor alteration...

Kelly - thanks - I sometimes feel the kaftan is a bit "Golden Girls" - but then I see other people rocking them.... I think that I will bring it to the front and try and wear it a couple of times this late summer and see how I feel about it (Good suggestion Fashintern).

Jessi - the top is a bit fussy and that is what puts me off - the cami underneath is fine from a temperature point of view though Fashintern.

I think out with the black tunic, try and wear the white jacket and black kimono.

It is jeans weather now so I could try and wear the yellow tee and see how I feel.

Hmmm they each have something about them that prevents you from loving them. I say pass them on. Life’s too short and wardrobe space is too precious!

I don’t understand about the coral top. It’s bare enough that you wear extra undergarments, but you also keep it for high summer; doesn’t the cami underneath make it too warm for when it’s really hot out?

The yellow T is mostly worn with jeans; I think you should wait until jeans season to decide its fate.

The tunic is ready to go.

Why not move the kimono to the front of your closet and try to reach for it a few times?

The coral top is a gorgeous color on you, but it does look fussy—that special halter neck, requiring a strapless bra, and/or needing another layer underneath because it’s sheer. I would pass it on, and keep your eyes open for other items in that color.

I love the coral top. The cut and style is very flattering and it looks terrific with the floral skirt and I'd imagine with the white bottoms or anything navy. I've seen you in the white jacket before and think it's a keeper. I think I'd prefer the black tunic with black leggings but since you're not into them anymore, I would probably pass it on. The kimono looks like a good transitional layering piece but I think I'd prefer something sleeker--it looks conservative for your style although I can't articulate why. It's great to see you!
