Shiny, I don't think my hair is as curly as yours (which I actually find really pretty). I think it's more like Anna's (annagybe) at shorter lengths, although she definitely has more of it than I do.

Photo is one of my bobs two years ago. Can't remember whether I had straightened it or not... but if I had, it didn't really work out that well lol

Okay, I recommend careful removal of the length -- cut too much while wet, and your hair may wind up curly rather than wavy when it dries. I speak from experience. :-)

My hair is also thin and fine and wavy. (It wasn't always wavy, I had a texture change when I hit late 30s... in fact, throughout college I would get perms). I posted some hair pics a few weeks back if you want to see what happens when I air dry, versus straighten. What I've learned is that the shorter my hair is cut, the curlier my hair is! At the length in pic 1 and 2, i wouldn't be "tousled" -- that only happens if I have straightened my hair and I get caught in a light rain storm, or I'm working up a sweat on a hot dance floor, which provides just enough moisture to release the waves. It's rare but totally magical when that happens. Hee hee...

Layering is definitely required or I get that triangle effect. Layering, of course, releases even more curl.

The techniques RoseandJean recommended work too, though I agree you have to be careful with that one. I had that done with my latest cut, it looks good and it's easy to work with but I swear my hair is much thinner now. Not necessarily in a good way. My hairdresser did mention, while cutting my hair, that my hair had thinned significantly since my last visit, she brushed it off as stress and normal growth cycles, and assured me that it was already growing back. But I don't know. It did not seem as thin before the cut. I'm bringing this up since you mentioned your own hair is scarce.

Often my hairdresser cuts my hair wet, blows it dry, then finishes cutting it, so she can work with the wave and persnickity-ness. This is a great option for wavy hair. You just have no idea how far it's going to curl up. Curly gals often get their hair cut dry, not wet, for this very reason. That may be a good way to go for you!

Shiny, what you see in #3 is the final stage of growing out a pixie lol I really don't have good memories of my hair at shorter lengths, but neither did before of my hair at its longest. The thing is, for the most part of my life I've tried to control it, comb it and transform it into something it is not (aka straight, thick, sleek hair). But since I have stopped trying and just started combing it after washing, then letting it do its own thing, it looks much much prettier and people started complimenting me on my hair, which is something I would have never thought about. I think that this time around I will just do the same thing as with the long hair and that it will look all right. Sexy-careless-wavy or something like that. I don't have Asian hair and finally have accepted that. I could also work on it with some wax to give it some texture.

I'm definitely going for the layers. Ah, tonight I have been told by two friends not to cut it, since it looks so pretty blablabla... guess it will just grow back, right? lol I always get fed up quickly with my hair, no matter what...

Thank you all for your ideas, knowledge and experience!

What RoseandJean said, and your hair is lovely.

Have you had your hair that short before? Do you know how it behaves at a shorter length? Because i find that the shorter my hair is, the curlier it becomes.

biscuitsmom is right. My DD has really thick hair that gets hard to manage when it's all one length. I recently had my hair stylist give her a layered cut, and it's so much more easy for my DD to manage and style. What's more, everyone she knows at the high school has commented on her new "do." The best part is that she didn't have to give up the overall length of her hair. Further, she says it feels so much lighter when it's layered.

I agree, layers would probably work best. I have somewhat wavy hair, but it's very thick and I had a angled bob for a couple of yrs, but recently got tired of it and switched to a short(er) shag, which means wash-n-go! I think layers, properly cut, makes most hair easier to deal with...good luck! Love your inspiration pics.... your hair looks very pretty too!

My hair is fine but I have a lot of it, and it does its own thing. It's not that wavy, but it won't hang completely straight. If I grow it out past a certain length, there are parts that want to flip up and parts that won't flip no matter what I do to it, and it looks stringy. On top of that, I have a cowl lick at the front and can't wear blunt-cut bangs. Right now I have a layered bob, with a side part, that's similar to pic #1 but is stacked in the back to prevent that section of my hair from flipping out (one side flips out and the other side flips under once it gets past a certain length). It's a true wash-and-go style that doesn't have to be blow-dried or anything. I just love it! If my hair has to be difficult, at least I can wear an easy-care style. The only down side is that my hair grows fast and I have to go in for a trim every 4 weeks.

I also have wavy fine hair but lots of it. I find I need some degree of point cutting or slithering to avoid my hair forming an odd triangular shape. These techniques while basic remove bulk from the hair but are usually subtler than layers (although I do believe the technique should not be used too frequently).

I have an appointment tomorrow to the salon, and I've decided I'm going for a longish bob (see photos), and a light fringe/bangs (no blunt bangs since I have scarce hair).

The thing is, my hair is sort of wavy when I air-dry, sort of straight but not sleek when blow-drying. And its fine and gets tangled all the time (I only comb once a day now, and let it go crazy, since combing repeatedly only leads to breaking it).

The question is: is it better to get it layered or to go for a blunt cut? My hairdrasser doesn't really like to give her opinion on any ideas I have, so even if I know that if I ask her to do THIS, she'll do THIS and not THAT, I need to know what I have to ask her for (reason I go there is because it's inexpensive, I like their personalities -have had issues with earlier hairdressers who stuck their noses everywhere- and actually does what I tell her to do instead of getting all creative and ruining my hair -yeah, been there too).

I want to go for an A-cut bob (shorter at the nape, longer at the sides, but not as extreme as Una's).

1 & 2: ideas for length and texture (longer than Charlize though, since I have braces so can't do chin-lenght right now)
3: my princess wavy hair, which I love, but it's damaged and I'm bored with it after a year or so
