I do agree that layering a fluid top is a bit tricky! The correct fluid top for layering will be fluid yet structured. Think of it as a size up from your regular size. The overly fluid ones are best as summer tops.

Mango does some nice fluid tops. And they run large. May be you could have a look see there.

I call the top in this outfit fluid
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....imal-print

And this one overly fluid/tunicy which cannot be layered/ hard to layer under structured toppers (I can see it with a vest though)

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-comfort-1

Does this help?

I'm not 100% sure on what kind of tops you mean -- tops to layer UNDER a flowing overtop, or tops that ARE fluid, to layer under a jacket or other topper? Or fluid toppers (i.e.jackets)?

And what type? Wovens? Knits?

I'm bumping hoping that someone else will offer ideas. The Portofino shirt is a flowing blouse. I think IK is recommending under layers but possibly also flowing knit over layers (she wears both).

At the lower end of a budget, I would recommend checking out the Portofino shirts from Express: http://www.express.com/search/.....d=16866150

I like James Perse, Inhabit, and Eileen Fisher for flowy tops. Velvet and Splendid also do some good ones, I'd check Anthropologie as I imagine they'll be stocking up ASAP.

Where are they and how do you find? As I seem to always mention, I am SYCing at the moment and all my tops that are "flowy" are either too fabric-y to layer beneath or have some sort of detail that "pokes-through". Or my good layering tees aren't flowy enough. So I think I have added this to my needs list...where are some good places to start? Any tips or material recommendations? I think I'd like to keep this on the lower end of my (not quite established) budget. Any links or photos of yours would be greatly appreciated.

(I might be posting a lot tonight...built up a lot of questions this past week and have totally lost interest in the movie we are currently "watching")
