I think they are cute Maya, the color is key- sometimes you need a boot in a color that you can never just find. I am with you about comfort. If you can walk in these for 8 hours- they are absolutely worth it. They seem a bit casual however if in pristine condition with dark hose, I can picture smart casual.

They are comfy. I am not worried about that. Finding comfy boots is actually not that hard for me, so I have more freedom with style than I would with pumps.

I just fear they look too much like slippers. I wish I still had the Boden catalog they appeared in so I could see how the models wore them.

Not boring, esp with the cool color you have! Plus, you said you couldn't replace them right now... and it is so tough to find comfy boots that fit. As others said, too, they'd look dressier w/o the tassels.

I can easily blow $20 taking my kids to Taco Bell-- I'd forgo the tacos and have my shoes spiffed up! (that is how my brain works- crazy I know...)

I think if they are comfy they are definately worth altering, I like them but i think the tassels make them look more casual, i chopped off the tassels on the back of my suede boots because they annoyed me flopping around! I agree with julie they need to be kept clean. i don't wear mine in the wet if i can help it brush of dust/ marks with a suede brush after each wear and give them regualr doses of suede protector x

I think the boots will definitely work smart casually and business casually in your creative department of the museum. If they are comfortable I think the alterations will be worth the extra money.

I love suede boots with flat heels, although I don't own a pair and believe the key to making them appear smarter is pristine condition. Patchy dirty suede would remind me of my college years.

Magali, it looks like you can wear whatever shoes you want, so I can see why these wouldn't be your choice! But I can't, so I just work around what I can wear.

I guess you are right Sara. For $20 I may as well at least give it a try. With my fussy feet I can't take any comfortable shoe for granted!

Maybe it's just a symptom of entering my late 20's and not being a student anymore, but I don't feel as comfortable in super casual outfits and something about the suede and lack of a heel makes these seem that way. If they could work with at least smart casual, I will feel more confident about them (the museum if biz casual but my other job on Thursdays and Fridays is a free-for-all. I prefer to wear SC though).

You said they are comfy and it wouldn't be too expensive to have them worked on, so why not try it.

Even if you decide against wearing them to work, you will have a unique pair of comfy 'personalized' boots that you will probably find fun to wear in other situations.

If they are comfortable, you should let the cobbler work his magic on them. It sounds like they'd be ideal for your museum position for walking and dressed up with a dressier skirt.

I really like the boots, Maya. I don't think they are boring -- they have some stitching that give interest, in a subtle way. Plus the color is not a standard brown or black.

I think the tassels make them on the casual side, but with the tassels taken off you may be able to wear them with dressier clothes. But of course, photos would help

They're so cute. Claret is more of a burgundy to me. They don't look dressy to me but they look beautiful.

I love the boots Maya, I think it would be worth fixing them. I have a pair that is somewhat similar and I love them.
I defer to others on the dressier vs. casual question.

I posted this picture in my other thread (the outfit is off, I know). It reminded me that these boots were in my closet and not being worn. As you might be able to tell from the picture, tne of the tassels broke off (my fault) and I couldn't reattach it because I lost it, which is just as well since they constantly came untied and added a lot of bulk on the sides. So today I took them to a cobbler to see what they could do. They said they could remove all the tassels and sew the gap on the sides up. My question is would it be worth it? It's not that it's expensive but I am just wondering if I should just let them go. They are very comfy but without the tassels, I wonder if they're a bit boring. I'm also not a fan of suede. OTOH, I got them from Boden and they are good quality, and I really like the color (Boden called it "claret"...like a burgundy but a bit more purple). And of course I can't get another pair of boots to replace them, and if I could it would be really hard to find a similar color.

Also, are they considered casual or can I wear them to work with a dressier skirt? They look completely flat but they have a 5/8" heel that is covered in the same colored suede.

These are my boots:
http://img.photobucket.com/alb.....G_1496.jpg

Found a clear picture on ebay (but in a different color):
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BODEN-FA.....19b90cdc38
