No leopard prints or loafers currently in my wardrobe. But here's my version of a blazer, light blue shirt, flared jeans, and a ballet flat.

The closest I could get would be black or grey jeans, a single breasted traditional fit black wool blazer, and one of two striped cotton poplin tops. They aren’t classic shirts, though, they are popovers with peplum waists. I have relaxed straight jeans and lots of loafers. I have been thinking those blazers would be useful this Fall, I am seeing more conventional fits and waists. I hadn’t thought of that pairing and will put it on the list. Thanks!

Oooo! I love your challenges, Carla!

Back in the 2010s, I wore my own version of the 2015 version. I had this fab knit blazer with layered ruffles/flounces at the small of the back. (Think flamenco-esque, if you will) I wore that sucker to shreds. I typically wore it with a blouse and skinny jeans and ballet flats.

How would I style this today?

Bootcut or slim jeans.

Leopard print button-up shirt

pointy toe flats with slim jeans, boots with bootcut jeans

My jackets are woefully lacking, so would my military jacket might work? Or a slouchy knit cardigan?

Am I even close with this?? I have no idea. I feel like my vibe would read a lot, lot different than the current version you showed above because I don't have a more tailored jacket or blazer. Maybe it's worth finding a softly tailored blazer...

Predictably, I like both versions. I'd have worn 2015's as they did then, except for the loafers, which are hard for me to fit.

I'd wear a version of 2025's but with variations...

I don't like long oversized blazers on me, so I'd wear a shorter one...and at the moment, the only one I own is shrunken!

For summer, it would be cropped wide leg jeans or barrel leg jeans; for winter, full length wide leg.

Again, I'd need different footwear -- probably oxfords or sneakers. But maybe Mary Janes.

I love the look of both - pic 1 maybe more because of the colors, but it's too warm where I live to justify blazers so I've had to give up that option sadly. I miss a plaid unlined blazer I had years ago - was a favorite when I worked in a cold office.

This was a favorite casual look for donkey's years. I love the stripe against the plaid (no collars for me either). My blazer is not shrunken exactly, but definitely very fitted. I still wear this look, but the blazer is a bit more snug than I would like. I am more likely to wear boots than loafers these days. I am looking for a brown plaid jacket as a pleasant change, if I can find something second hand.

Interesting to see the same formula interpreted differently over the years! I do prefer the tweedy/patterned/textured jackets of the first version, and my own current oversized blazer is an earth toned small houndstooth (I think), instead of flat black or classic navy, which don’t appeal to me. I’m forever looking for a wool blazer in an earthy menswear type pattern. I saw a stylish woman wearing one with this formula yesterday, she wore burnished gold loafers. I have loafers but have rarely if even worn them with jeans. I think I lack the right cropped cut in denim whereas I do have linen and cotton pants that work with them. I’ll have to make a try at this formula for fall.

This is such a great example of how to update a formula ... As others mentioned, the devil is in the details! I would also do the more current silhouette version in this, with straight jeans and a more relaxed blazer vs the skinnier and more shrunken rendition.

I love the continuity of style. Silhouette changes but elements remain Right now I wear a straight ankle denim, blazer, button down maybe but more likely a graphic tee like the one in photo 2. Loafers always slip off but suddenly I’m on a quest after seeing Taylor swifts lug sole oxfords in the new movie for THAT as an alternative to loafers. Her shoes seemed to have a slightly higher heel lift. I am usually a no socks gal too but got some cute striped crew socks, dressy not athletic, that I’d like to style

I personally don't feel fab in blazers with a collered shirt, too strict, as LJP aptly put it. I'm not a fan of shrunken or oversized either. I obviously do a have a classicness to my style hidden somewhere LOL. This will work for you and your vibe though that suits you to a T.

Wouldn’t do either- have no blue jeans. But like slim straight pants the best and no oversized blazers, prefer soft shorter jackets. I think it’s to do with being petite and preferring more gamine looks.

Like Irina I am more struck by the differences than the similarities. The older picture is all about fitted/shrunken blazers and skinny jeans and the current pic is oversized blazers and flared jeans. If I were to wear the blazer/jeans combo right now and wanted to look trendy I would choose straight jeans, a waist defining blazer and jazz style lace up shoes.

YES! Like you Carla, I'd wear this classic iconic look too - but with some changes:

BF jeans or wide crops (not skinnies or flares)

Regular length blazer (I don't enjoy wearing long jackets)

No visible socks

Yes to the button down shirts and striped knits

Yes to the loafers

I'd add a belt, bag, and whole lot of colour!

'My first thought was "no" because I have weeded most blazers out of my closet now. I have a few dressy black blazers/jackets but honestly never wear them now. I also don't wear shirts . The cropped kick flares in the newer photo I DO have, and while I like the styling here, I really wouldn't replicate it for myself. Too classic and strict. My version would have a knit or silk top of some sort plus an oversized jacket of some sort - likely a bomber or a quilted utility type jacket. Irina makes a great point about shirts, shrunken blazers and slim jeans suiting a certain body type - which I don't have but you do !

It’s a no for me, Carla. I remember shrunken blazers with slim jeans from 2015. I didn’t like it then and my opinion hasn’t changed. In 2025 photo women wear more relaxed cut blazers, oversized, not a classic cut but denim is a slimmer fit. And loafers. Too classic for me. Also, I find that this style looks good on straight type of bodies. Would look great on you.
