Sorry if I missed anyone. Suz, Katerina, Sally, rachylou, thanks, but I can’t take credit for the genius of Jil. The +J collections have been absolutely stellar this time around, mainly because these essentials are all so well executed. Shevia, these culottes are one of those surprise workhorses. A real winter staple. I got them at a knockdown price because the label had been cut out, and while I’m pretty sure they are CdG, I honestly don’t care if they’re not. Bijou, if I was at any risk of being seen by Jil Sander, I would probably run and hide immediately… Phoebe, suntiger, there always seems to be a trade off between colour and silhouette. When looking for specific colors outside the neutral palette, the garments tend to be more generic. There’s fun to be had with scarves and tees, and a few bright accents can go a long way. I feel less inclined towards pattern mixing this winter, so Jil’s bold shapes can come into their own. Irina: did you go for the quilted vest? I’m very much looking forward to hearing/seeing how you get on with it. I’m actually traveling with *the other* quilted vest, thereby justifying the existence of both. Gaylene, why am I not surprised you went for the same pieces? The joggers are great, particularly for days like today when one wants to feel stylish in self-isolation. The hoodie is lovely too. And the chinos - well, pants this good come along very rarely. I had to have two pairs. I jumped online early in the morning of the launch but even then some items I wanted were gone. I managed to get a couple pairs of the joggers, a pair of chinos, a striped shirt, a sweatshirt, a jacket, a sweater, and a hoodie— <div> </div><div>One thing I did notice, though, was items tended to pop back in after a couple of weeks. Some pieces even went on sale a month or so later so it pays to keep checking the website. And, by the way, I don’t think you need to add color unless YOU like the idea. I’m a fan of the Jil Sander look BECAUSE of her neutral palette and focus on structure and shape rather than hectic color mixing, ornamentation, and decoration. Your comments are much appreciated. I expect I’ll have plenty of time to go back over the thread during mandatory self-isolation. Thanks for the compliments on the boots, but I promise, you’ve seen them before.  Angie, you’re a genius. I was trying to figure out how to amp it up with the colors. Silk scarves. Of course. Two of them, with bold graphic prints. And my ridiculous soccer scarf. The tees will only take me so far in this weather. I am missing a beanie.  Runcarla, all good questions. There will be more colors, and hopefully some light to moderate urban bushwhacking. Luggage is one of those cabin-sized boxes on wheels. As yet undecided on handbags.  So… thermal base layers in black, navy, the Good Yellow and a very polite shade of shocking pink. Two printed tees, suitable for layering, one black, one b/w stripes, both with metallic silver prints. A long sleeved stripy tee. I nixed the white shirt and I might pack a pair of printed leggings.  Jenn, CarolS, a really good travel capsule is something of a Holy Grail isn’t it? It can add so much to the pleasure of traveling. I think this will be a good one. I’m not expecting a terribly exciting trip, but at least I’ll enjoy getting dressed. I’m kind of envious — we have now planned for and cancelled Europe/UK Christmas plans for two years running, thanks to Covid. We are, however, going to NYC for the holiday so that’s a pretty good compromise. I prefer to travel light, so I aim to be as compact as possible. This is where I get to see what my closet is made of, pulling out a few favourites and making them fit together as succinctly as I can. My last few trips have been increasingly casual. This time, I am in the mood to be not exactly dressy, but coordinated and polished and with a little bit of drama. I ended up with a very minimalistic formula. I never thought I could achieve minimalism, but it seems to have happened accidentally. Not a deliberate choice, simply how it all came together, based on requirements for the trip, which are low key, practical and mobile. What I see here is the very backbone of my winter wardrobe. Just about everything goes with everything else, theoretically. I feel I could dress from this selection for weeks and not get bored. I might struggle to meet any formal requirements, but I don’t foresee any trips to the Opera. About half comes from three successive +J collections. I have mixed feelings about this, but cannot deny it, all these pieces are excellent. All of it is either black or dark blue, apart from the layers, where I can bring in white and bright accents. None of the blues quite match. I blame/defer to Jil here. I contemplated packing some denim, but none of it plays nicely with the tall boots. Chinos and slimline joggers make for a nod to the signature YLF equestrian vibe, hopefully more caballero than stable lass. Different footwear would have been a whole other story. I will probably travel in the Gansey and the culottes. They are the least compact of all the items. Outerwear: Navy +J down jacket, black Ultralight down vest (No photos, but a surprisingly accurate technical drawing) Footwear: 1 pair Tall boots, black, 1 pair walking sneakers, black with fluorescent laces Toppers: Navy blue oversized Gansey sweater (a bit of a star this one) Black deep V tunic, no name, +J black sweatshirt Bottoms: CdG culottes, +J plisse skirt, both black, +J blue chinos, +J joggers (grey in finds, blue IRL) Layers not shown: assorted tees, turtle necks, thermal tights & leggings, and a white viscose satin button down from Ghost.
