can you put orthotics in the siebels or the cons? the cons are generously size and i put in heel supports in mine.

if you did get the brooks and go with the neon teal or lime green, you will be so on trend for neon!

I overpronate, so my go-to exercise shoes for years have been the Brooks Addiction and not the Adrenaline. The insole it the Addiction walking shoe is so much better and thicker than in the Addiction running shoe. Go figure. On something like a trip where you'll be doing a lot of walking, function really has to trump form, and when new, my Brooks shoes outperform my Danskos or any other shoe. Just make DH swear under oath that no photos of you will show your feet! If you can't see them, they ain't there!
I was going to post the same thing Rae said - the black would be less high contrast and less noticeable. Comfortable feet are the most important part of the trip so I hope these work out for you.

Well, at least these particular sneaks come in black. That should go a long way to looking less like a typical tourist. Almost like a bootie, really. And the most important thing is to by comfortable and enjoy the sights! And flavors!

Bummer! I hope these shoes will allow you to walk without discomfort, because you will be walking ALOT! THE most important thing for you in planning your trip will be your shoes. In spite of everything that you read about shoes to wear in Europe, many people wear sneaker type shoes so I wouldn't worry about it, just take care of your feet.

They're cute and the colour is fab. The most important thing is that you're able to enjoy your vacation and not concerned about the pain in your feet. I've been looking for shoes as well for my upcoming trip to the UK and I finally ordered these yesterday. When are you going? Can't wait to see what you pack!

Think of it as the sporty trend and that your feet will be comfortable on your wonderful vacation. I would try and break them in prior to the trip and make sure they can tolerate a full day walking.

Oh, I'm really sorry. I had plantar fascitis years ago, but I was given an orthotic. I was able to wear different kind of shoes with it. I just sized a half size up for more room. That's how my shoes all ended up being a size 8, although I am mostly a 7.5.

I would look into that also. The sneakers are over $100.00, the orthotic was much cheaper and was partially covered by insurance.

ETA: Are the sneakers prescription? They seem like an average running shoe but what do I know. How do they compare to the black sneakers you wore at the meet up? Perhaps you can look into similar footbeds if you want something more "street" or you can even wear the black sneakers!

Yes, the important thing is that you not be in pain! As a fellow PF-sufferer I totally get it. I wear things like Danksos and Naots a lot, plus I put orthotics in everything). The arch in most athletic shoes is actually wrong for me. To that point, I'd suggest wearing these all day while walking in Boston to make sure that your feet can actually take it. Even though the podiatrist says they're good the real test is to put them through their paces (literally). For me, my arches cramp in most athletic shoes because their arches are too high/strong, so they're fine when working out but not for standing all day. I do better in something with a lower arch and a higher heel (takes pressure off the heel).

FWIW, Cons are terrible for me. Way too flat.

Did the podiatrist recommend any orthotics? Those really improve the comfort of regular shoes.

ETA: I'd give the romikas a chance too. If your feet are anything like mine, you're going to need more than one pair of shoes for a walking-intensive trip. No matter how comfy the shoe is, my feet do not like being constrained to the same shape for multiple days in a row. I like to alternate pairs, preferably with different heel heights.
Cons are pretty bad as far as support, in my experience. I think the Romikas would be way better for your feet than Cons, since they have a molded footbed that's almost like an orthotic.

I would so do the sporty white Cons featured today, but I am sure they would not have the support and would kill my feet. They'd be so stylish, though. For summer! Thanks again.

http://www.amazon.com/Brooks-W.....B00A0QZZP4

It turns out that I probably have plantar fasciitis in my left heel--early stages and not that bad, but walking has been bothering my foot. The podiatrist wrote out a scrip for these shoes! They are not what I had in mind, but he thinks they will carry me through the whole trip (obviously if I go someplace nice for dinner, et cetera, I can switch to a pretty shoe). They would be my walking shoe, and the Romikas I'm still waiting on would not be necessary, and then only a consideration if I fall in love with them anyway.

Well, if I was thinking I'd look like a tourist, I've sealed that deal now!

Hopefully today I will find some outerwear for the trip, and start wrapping up the wardrobe planning. I did get some good things at The Gap last week and if I need advice, I know where to ask! Grazie mille!
