I love the look on others - have tried it a zillion times but just don't feel comfortable with it so I just accept it's not for me and so I never ever tuck anything in as I think it looks better with coverage.

One more thing (for me at least) is that I never buy pants or jeans that are tight in the least on my stomach - most of my pants are a size up these days on purpose. I have larger hips so it works for me even though sometimes the waist is just a little big so a belt is almost always needed.

A friend of mine refers to her tiny belly pooch as "the baby badge of honour".I think Jj is right. The waistband needs to be a bit low and not too tight.

The waistband you are tucking (or semi-tucking) into must be at a good spot and the top must not be clingy at all.
And then there is the reality that real women have real bellies.

I have issues in this regard, too. A non-binding waistband that lies flat against my midsection instead of pinching at all (in other words, it is almost impossible with jeans) works best, and then a semi-tuck with the shirt slightly blousoned over the top sometimes works. A side tuck often creates the visual interest I am looking for without creating any issues, too.

I'm right there with you in middle-age poochville. I'm still trying to figure out how to tuck/semi-tuck without showcasing my worst figure feature. *sigh*

Ceit and textstyle have made some great suggestions. I do think fabric makes a big difference in how much/little the pooch shows. Wovens are better than knits. And there is always the faux tuck.

That said, there may just be some of us who weren't meant to tuck in any way. It's perfectly ok to have a style that doesn't include tucking.

I do what texstyle suggested - often it works & sometimes it doesn't. It depends on so many things the weight of the fabric in the top, the cut of the bottoms. The right belt is crucial too in my experience. Keep playing when you find your sweet spot it does feel great:)

You could try Angie's faux semi-tuck, where you tuck the shirt behind your belt. I think this should hide the pooching since it would be both lower and looser.
Yes, for above the waistband I think a non-clingy top or something with a bit of structure would work better there, where it will kind of stack on the waistband and stand out from your body. The volume there then looks intentional and not that you are larger there.

Below the waistband I have no suggestions -- I guess it would be a matter of finding either the sweet spot in rise, or maybe a more flowy trouser instead of something more fitted?
For semi-tuck I think button downs and looser type tees (non clinging) are more forgiving than other knits and tees for disguising any extra in the belly area. I wear a pretty wide belt and a fairly low rise myself but you could experiment with your pant rise and various belts to see how different ones work for you. I also use a "faux" tuck sometimes and let it sort of bunch up on purpose. I also tuck the front some, pull out a bit of fabric and let it hang more loosely, but still semi-tucked, - have you tried this?

I would like to wear the semi-tuck but I have an old lady pooch. (not the animal kind) No matter how I try, the semi-tuck accentuates my belly. Maybe my current body is not meant to wear the tuck/semi-tuck look. What say you?
