Thanks Angie, I had doubts about belts, I have a gorgeous one I bought and I've been told that it's too wide for me, I'll try with a lower contrast outfit!

Hm, as usual, YLF opens my eyes to things I hadn't thought of! The contrast between medium wash denim and brown belt is low enough that I think I'll give it a spin and see. :)

I think it has to do with colour contrast and not width. A lower contrast is less horizontally cutting on a short torso as is wearing a lower rise. I foresee no problems with the actual width of the belt, Beth.

It's a good question, Beth. I, too, avoid belts of a certain width around my natural (short) waist, but for jeans that are sitting on my hips, I don't mind a wide belt. I'm also long in the rise (like Adelfa).

I wear belts like this with jeans. They hit below my waist. I have a long rise so I don't mind the width there. I don't like wearing wide belts around my natural waist for the same reason you mention. It *is* lovely.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. You pose and interesting question on belt size and proportion. Hopefully some others will have some insight.

I ran by Nordstrom to check out the fabulous RL boho belt that Angie posted yesterday. For any of you on the fence, it's supple but still structured and the buckle is very cool. It's a belt you could wear for years.

That said, I passed on it as the 1 3/4" width felt like too much on my short-waisted frame. The width and the buckle size just seemed to take up too much of my limited torso real-estate!

Have we ever talked about proportion in terms of belts? I feel like we have, but can't recall. How much belt is too much?
