Too bad. I'm not familiar with them but I hate to see something with some individualism go away. So much of retail just looks the same. Too bad for the employees also.

Excellent read thank you. I read the article about Nastygal also since the page linked to that. I suppose often these types of brands pick up something in the zeitgeist and run with it... then the founders often can’t cope and have to bring in the more “corporate” people. Happens here too.

That is sad. ModCloth was not my style but they did have some unique pieces.

I have a lot of friends my age who adored ModCloth early on. As we were finishing up college and entering the workforce (think 2005 - 2010) ModCloth felt like a perfect fit for a lot of young women who wanted to hang onto their quirkiness but still feel appropriate in a professional environment. It always skewed too femme and too colourful for me, but I could appreciate why others valued the brand.I know some people who practically wept when they were sold to Jet/Walmart. It really felt like the end of an era. Today's "entry-level" workwear skews so neutral and minimalist (think Everlane and Brass); if you're not into that, where do you turn?

kind of reminds me of the rise and fast fall of Nasty Girl....to bad, as i think each business had something to offer, they just both seemed to grow faster than they could manage

Wow, I'm not familiar with this brand behind knowing the name, but what a mismanagement once it was initially sold! Sounds like the c-suite abandoned everything that made it a success in the first place. You're so right, what a shame for the employees that are now left in the lurch.

I'm not surprised ModCloth is facing an uncertain path. Once Walmart acquired ModCloth, many loyal customers left in droves. I feel considerable empathy for the remaining employees whose future is now in the hands of an investment firm.
